Term 3 Week 4 of 9
Friday, 15th August 2025
Message from the Principal
Dear parents/carers,
I’m writing this newsletter after just returning from Year 3 camp. What a wonderful overnight stay our students had at camp Week away in Benloch. They did canoeing, archery, a maze run, possum glider and the flying fox. At night we had a campfire where they roasted marshmallows and had a sing along. The students showed so much resilience in their first school camp. Thanks to the staff for giving up their time and energy to make the two days such a success.
I want to especially focus on the wonderful way our children looked after each other and supported each other in completing a new type of experience. This was such a positive thing to witness and says a lot about the positive spirit of our school and the way our staff and families encourage this.
This coming Monday August 18 is a school closure day. There are no students at school on this day. Staff will be onsite doing a program called “Team Teach”, which is further professional learning to support excellent behaviour at our school.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
Best wishes,
Deputy Principal: Learning & Organisation
Book Week - Next Week!
The time has come! Book Week is upon us! As mentioned in our previous newsletter, there will be some fun activities planned for the week including a writing competition, a spelling bee and of course our very special annual Book Week Parade which will take place at 9am in the Courtyard. Entries are due by Thursday 21st August for judging to take place. Winners will be announced at each level assembly. There will be some great book prizes up for grabs throughout the week! Check out some of last year’s costumes for some inspiration. I know the staff here at Resurrection have their costumes organised and ready to go!

Physical Education Update
We have had some exciting events completed this term already and more still to come.
WEEK 3 Districts Athletics
On Wednesday the 6th of August during Week 3 of Term 3, we had 43 Students across the middle school and senior cohorts attend the Districts Athletics Competition hosted at Keilor Park Athletics Track.
Our students competed in many events including 100m and 200m sprints, relay races, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot-put and discus. All students gave it their all and competed well against other schools in our district zone. For our middle school grade 3 and 4 students who attended, the district's sports was a new experience for them as they had the opportunity to participate in a major school sport competition. As for the senior students who have already engaged in many competitions throughout the year, the demand for competitiveness was high and the level of talent was a challenge against other schools, however they exceeded all expectations and delivered outstanding results.
All of our Resurrection Students achieved amazing results on the day and came with a tough competitive spirit. We had five students qualify into the next round from winning their events against all the other schools, a special congratulations to:
Maci (6C) placing 2nd overall in 200m sprint
Kohoe (6A) placing 1st overall in Long Jump
Apiok (6A) placing 2nd overall in High Jump
James (6C) placing 2nd overall in High Jump

The students will represent their school house colours and score house points throughout the day to help their house colour group win the junior competition. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:30pm and conclude by 1:30pm, it will be filled with cheers, friendly competition and heaps of fun!
Parents will receive details on the event in the near future through Operoo and all students in the junior cohorts will be practicing their skills and activities for Junior Sports Day in their PE classes.

Today is the The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (15th of August)
Q. What’s it all about and why are we asked to go to Mass on this day?
Mary was no ordinary person, she was set apart for a special purpose… Her great ‘yes’ to God was a significant one, one that allowed her to become the mother of God. Recognising the extraordinary role she had here on earth, it is in our belief that at her death she was assumed body and soul into heaven to unite with Jesus her son.
From the range of Feast Days in the Church’s calendar, ‘Solemnities’ are the greatest of them all. The Catholic Church in Australia recognises this day as a ‘Holy Day of Obligation’, asking us to go to Mass in thanksgiving, to rejoice Mary’s assumption into heaven.
You are invited to join the parish for our Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mass at 7pm tonight
The Sacrament of Confirmation: 2 weeks to go!
As our community of Resurrection prepares our Year 6 students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, here are some weekly reflections on the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. It is also a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on how we apply it in our own lives.
Gift of the Spirit: Understanding
Helps us comprehend the deeper meaning of something - beyond human ability & through God’s lens.
Q: How does the gift of understanding help in times of difficulty?
Fruit of the Spirit: Joy
It’s more than just ‘happiness’, it is lasting gladness that remains despite the circumstances.
Q: Can you think of a time where you felt ‘joy’ over ‘happiness’?
“...whatever gifts I have been given, I place them at your service” - St. Augustine
In Faith,
Coming this term...

SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C
We reflect:
Fire is an image in the Bible of God’s presence and love along with judgment and purification from sin. When Jesus said he has “come to set the earth on fire,” he means he desires for all people to be consumed with the love of God. He wants us to be on fire for him!
Jesus made this possible through his death on the cross, which is the “baptism” that he is anguished about. Jesus was ridiculed, betrayed, and painfully executed so we could have peace with God. Yet, Jesus says here that he did not “Come to establish peace on earth…but rather division.”
Jesus is the Prince of Peace and, as is clear in other parts of the gospels, he offers us peace, but that peace is not of this world. He did not come to make everyone get along. Rather, the peace that he offers transcends this world. It is a peace that is interior and that we can have even in the midst of division and war.
As Christians, we can expect division as a result of following Jesus. We can expect resistance, opposition, and persecution because we are proclaiming the truth of God to a hard-hearted world. At times, this may even result in division within our own families, as Jesus talks about in the gospel. Still, in the midst of persecution, we are called to have trust in God so we do not “grow weary and lose
We read Luke 12:49-53:
Jesus said to his disciples:
"I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."
The Gospel of the Lord,
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ!
