Term 3 Week 5 of 9
Friday, 22nd August 2025
Message from the Deputy Principal
Dear parents/carers,
This week, Adrian has joined many other principals from our school region for the Australian Catholic Education conference in Cairns. We know that this is such a valuable experience and opportunity for professional development, and we look forward to benefiting from the learnings throughout the week on his return on Monday.
What an eventful week it has been this week as we celebrated Book Week with a range of activities. A huge thank you to our students, families, and staff for getting involved and helping to foster a love of reading across our school. From creative costumes in our Book Parade to the excitement of the Spelling Bee finals and writing competition, it’s been heartwarming to see our community come together around the joy of books. Your enthusiasm and support truly brought the theme, “Book an Adventure”, to life!
Thank you to Miss Salloum who organised and facilitated the Spelling Bee throughout the week. Also, to the staff who supported the activities throughout the week, namely Mr Dalton, our fabulous MC for always making our whole school events so entertaining and engaging. Check out the photos of our spelling bee winners. There are more photos of the very impressive costumes to come in next week’s newsletter!
Pyjama Day - Friday 29th August
Get ready to stay cosy for a cause! On Friday 29th August, all students are invited to wear their pyjamas to school for our annual Pyjama Day Fundraiser. In return, we ask for a gold coin donation, with all funds raised going towards purchasing more quality resources for our wonderful school community. It’s a fun and comfy way to support a great cause – we can’t wait to see everyone in their best and comfiest attire!
This term is well and truly flying by and we still have so much planned for the remainder of Term 3. Continue to check those important dates as well as any communication being shared to ensure that you are up to date with important information and details of events.

This Week’s focus
Tips for building resilience in children
Building resilience in children is crucial for their healthy development and future well-being. Resilience helps children cope with adversity, manage stress, and bounce back from challenging situations, ultimately fostering emotional well-being, strong relationships, and success in life.
Make connections
Teach your child the importance of engaging and connecting with their peers, including the skill of empathy and listening to others. It’s also important to build a strong family network. Connecting with others provides social support and strengthens resilience.Help your child by having them help others
Children who may feel helpless can feel empowered by helping others. Engage your child in age-appropriate volunteer work or ask for assistance yourself with tasks.Maintain a daily routine
Sticking to a routine can be comforting to children, especially younger children who crave structure in their lives. Work with your child to develop a routine. Remember, sometimes you might need to be flexible with some routines.Take a break
While some anxiety can motivate us to take positive action, we also need to validate all feelings. Take a brain or movement break when things get tough.Teach your child self-care
Teach your child the importance of basic self-care. Make time to eat, exercise, and get sufficient sleep. Make sure your child also has time for fun.Move toward your goals
Teach your child to set reasonable goals and help them to move toward them one step at a time.Nurture a positive self-view
Affirm your child often and remind them of their gifts and talents. Help your child learn to trust themselves to solve problems and make good choices.Keep things in perspective and maintain a hopeful outlook
An optimistic and positive outlook can enable children to see the good things in life and keep going even in the hardest times. Help them see that there is a future beyond the current situation and that the future can be good.Accept change
Change often can be scary for children and teens. Help your child see that change is part of life and new goals can replace goals that have become unattainable. It is important to examine what is going well, and to have a plan of action for what is not going well.

The Sacrament of Confirmation: 1 weeks to go!
As our community of Resurrection prepares our Year 6 students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, here are some weekly reflections on the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. It is also a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on how we apply it in our own lives.
Gift of the Spirit: Fear of the Lord
A fear that recognises we have immense love and reverence towards God and thus we choose to do good and follow His ways
Q: What is a healthy fear? God’s love prompts us to try to do what’s right!
Fruit of the Spirit: Self-Control
Relying on God to help you avoid temptations and to exercise restraint
Q: Which area of your life might the fruit of ‘self-control’ be useful in?
“...whatever gifts I have been given, I place them at your service” - St. Augustine
In Faith,
To celebrate our Jubilee Year, we have an exciting COMPETITION coming up!
Keep your eyes peeled.

Healthy Lunch Box Ideas for Happy, Energised Kids
Packing your child’s lunch box can feel like a daily puzzle, balancing nutrition, taste, and variety while avoiding the dreaded half-eaten return. But with a little planning and creativity, you can turn lunch into something they look forward to every day. Here’s how to build a balanced, delicious lunch box that fuels their body and mind. Healthy doesn’t have to mean boring. With a splash of colour, a sprinkle of variety, and a dash of love, your child’s lunch box can be both nourishing and delightful. And who knows they might even start trading their snacks for yours!
Lost Property Reminder
It’s that time again, our lost property box is overflowing with forgotten jumpers, jackets and even some hats! If your child has come home without something recently, there’s a good chance it’s waiting to be reunited with them. Please stop by the school office after school to take a look.
Please also remember to label your child’s belongings to ensure any lost property that is brought to the office can be distributed to the correct child.
Let’s work together to ensure the lost property are returned to their rightful owners.
SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twentyfirst Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C
We reflect:
Jesus is not simply about familiarity or association. It’s about commitment. The word “strive” comes from a strong Greek verb, emphasising that discipleship requires effort and dedication. It’s a daily choice, a continual movement toward faithfulness, not a one-time decision.
This Gospel challenges us to consider our own spiritual journey. Are we merely familiar with Jesus, or are we committed to following Him in word and action? Do we strive daily, even when the path is difficult, uncertain, or demanding?
Here are some questions: Which doors are you striving to pass through? How can you deepen your relationship with Jesus today? And in your prayer life, how can you maintain a daily conversation with Him, ensuring that when the final door arrives, He will know where you have come from?
Luke 13:22-30 calls us to an active, striving faith. It reminds us that discipleship is demanding but rewarding, that God’s invitation is universal, and that commitment and perseverance matter above all. Let us approach the narrow door with intentionality, humility, and trust, striving each day to align our lives with the will of our Father.
We read Luke 13:22-30:
Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him,
“Lord, will only a few be saved?” He said to them,
“Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able. Once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then in reply he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’
Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evildoers!’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrown out. Then people will come from east and west, from north and south, and take their places at the banquet in the kingdom of God.
Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
The Gospel of the Lord,
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ!
