Term 3 Week 3 of 9

Friday, 8th August 2025

Message from the Principal

Dear parents/carers,

On Tuesday our 2025 Preps celebrated their milestone of 100 days of Prep. They dressed as people from the “olden days” to mark the number 100. Our staff dressed up as well. The preps marched in their Congo line through the guard of honour provided by all our other students and staff. They were treated like royalty, and they deserved it.

This is the first 100 days out of 1400 days they will spend in primary school and then 1200 days in secondary school plus all the other education they will receive. It's a small step in a long journey but an important one.

It’s a time for me to contemplate and think of the dreams that I have and our school has for these wonderful children. We dream and hope that these little children celebrating 100 days at school:

  • come to know God’s love

  • feel the love of family and friends

  • feel loved and accepted by all

  • know their school loves and cares for them

  • feel safe

  • get an education that gives them confidence

  • develop confidence in themselves and feel proud of their efforts.

  • learn how to make friends and show kindness to others.

  • feel free to express their feelings openly and learn how to manage them.

  • stay curious and excited about learning.

  • develop a love of reading, stories, and imagination.

  • develop a love of numbers and the power they have

  • build the resilience to try again when things are hard.

Best wishes,

Deputy Principal: Learning & Organisation

Year 3 Camp reminder

A reminder that our Year 3 students head off to camp on Monday 11th August and return to school for regular pick up on Tuesday 12th August. A packing list has been posted to Seesaw with finer details on what to bring along. Students should be able to carry their luggage themselves, and a practice run at folding and packing sleeping bags might be helpful in preparation for next week. I know there is definitely a buzz of excitement as our Year 3 students prepare for their very first school camp experience! The staff attending are also looking forward to this.

Celebrating the Book Fair

Once again, our Scholastic Book Fair was an absolute success! By contributing to the Book Fair, we earn rewards which we use to stock up on texts for our library and classrooms so that our students have access to engaging, high-quality texts. I hope you are enjoying your purchases at home. Now we look forward to celebrating Book Week in Week 5! Have you got your costumes organised?

PTI reminder for 2B - Mrs Collins

A reminder that interviews for families of students in 2B will take place on Wednesday 13th August. Please head to the school reception to be directed to your interview.

Book An Adventure - Book Week in Week 5!

There is only just over one week to go until we celebrate Book Week! There will be some fun activities planned for the week including a writing competition, a spelling bee and of course our very special annual Book Week Parade which will take place at 9am in the Courtyard. Parents are welcome to attend the parade as our students showcase their fabulous costumes. Here is the prompt for the writing competition which you are more than welcome to get started on. Entries are due by Thursday 21st August for judging to take place. Winners will be announced at each level assembly. There will be some great book prizes up for grabs throughout the week!

Wellbeing, Child Safety & Community Leader

Respectful, Responsible & Resilient=our learning values Lets focus on RESPECT this week

To foster respect in your child, start by modelling respectful behaviour yourself, actively teach respectful language and actions, and consistently reinforce positive behaviours with praise and rewards. Address disrespectful behaviour promptly and clearly, explaining why it's not acceptable, and help your child develop empathy and understand different perspectives.

HERE’S SOME IDEAS ON HOW TO HELP YOUR KIDS AT HOME…

1. Model Respect:

Lead by example:
Children learn by observing, so demonstrate respect in your interactions with everyone

Show respect to your child:

Treat them with the same courtesy and consideration you would expect from them.

Be mindful of your language and actions:
Use respectful language, listen attentively, and show empathy in your daily interactions.

2. Teach Respectful Language and Actions:

Explicitly teach manners:
Explain the importance of "please," "thank you," and other respectful phrases.

Model respectful communication:
Encourage your child to express their needs and feelings respectfully and teach them how to disagree constructively.

Address disrespect promptly:
When your child shows disrespect, address it immediately, explaining why the behavior is unacceptable and what the consequences are.

3. Reinforce Positive Behavior:

Praise respectful behavior:
When your child demonstrates respect, acknowledge and praise their actions to reinforce positive habits.

Offer rewards for respectful behavior:
Consider using a reward system to motivate and encourage respectful actions.

Focus on the good:
Remind your child of their positive qualities and actions, even when they make mistakes.

4. Foster Empathy and Understanding:

Encourage perspective-taking: Help your child understand different viewpoints and how their actions might affect others.

Discuss diversity and inclusion: Talk about the importance of respecting people from all walks of life.

Promote active listening: Teach your child to listen attentively to others and to try to understand their perspectives.

5. Address Disrespectful Behavior:

Confront disrespect early and often:
Don't let disrespectful behavior slide. Address it promptly and clearly, explaining why it's not acceptable.

Don't take it personally:
Try not to react emotionally to disrespectful behavior. Focus on the behavior itself and how to address it.

Help them understand the consequences:
Explain the impact of disrespectful actions on others and on their relationships.

By consistently implementing these strategies, you can help your child develop a strong foundation of respect for themselves and others.

August 8: Feast Day of Mary of the Cross (MacKillop)

“Never see a need without doing something about it”
- St. Mary of the Cross

Today is the Feast Day of Australia’s first Saint, St. Mary of the Cross. In our classrooms we contemplated her remarkable life through prayer and reflection.

Let us pray: Dear God, Mary MacKillop is an example for us as we learn to know God’s voice in those around us. Through her, may we trust God more. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(Portraits of Mary MacKillop drawn by various students throughout the school, 2024)

The Sacrament of Confirmation: 3 weeks to go!

As our community of Resurrection prepares our Year 6 students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, here are some weekly reflections on the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. It is also a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on how we apply it in our own lives.

Gift of the Spirit: Piety

Through piety, we have a deep respect for God leading to a loving and reverent relationship with Him

Q: There is a time to play and rest. How can we find more time to be quiet in God’s presence?

Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness

A deep desire to do good and to reflect God’s character out of love for oneself, to God and others

Q: Since God created all, do we see God in all people and all things?

Reminder: Next Friday the 15th of August is the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. We are called to attend Mass on this holy occasion. Our parish offers Mass at 7pm this same evening.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

We reflect:

Jesus is speaking to his disciples about the importance of being ready for his return. He tells them, “Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks”.

These words remind us that our time on this earth is limited, and we must always be prepared for the return of our Lord. Just as we prepare for special occasions, such as a wedding banquet, we must also prepare for the most important event of our lives – meeting our Lord in eternal glory.

We read Luke 12:35-40:

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Gird your loins and light your lamps

and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.

Blessed are those servants

whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.

Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,

have the servants recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.

And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way,

blessed are those servants.

Be sure of this:

if the master of the house had known the hour

when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

The Gospel of the Lord,

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ!
