Term 2 Week 8 of 11
Friday, 13th June 2025
Message from the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
It was such a pleasure to be in our beautiful church seeing our Year 4 students celebrating their First Holy Communion. What a wonderful experience for them as they grow and develop in their sacramental journey. Congratulations to them and their families. I look forward to seeing more this weekend.
Last week and this week, Marie Dorazio and I have had the pleasure of visiting each class and allowing students to choose from the PBL incentives once they have received their PBL cards. We have had students choosing mystery prizes, extra play time, having lunch with a friend and even being principal for 30 minutes. Most importantly we have had discussions about what good things we have seen our students doing and praising them for this, discussing the expected behaviours that have been followed and the positive effect this has on our learning community. We will do this every week.
In this week's newsletter I wish to focus on the school’s expectations of behaviour and especially focus on major (serious behaviours). These behaviours don’t occur very often in our school but need to be discussed, nonetheless.
Here are the rules and explanations:
This is a big list and one that the majority of students will never need to worry about, but it’s important that these types of behaviour are not allowed in our school.
If students break one of these rules. The following will happen:
Most importantly the child who breaks these rules also needs support from the school and to work together with their family to help to bring about more positive choices.
Best wishes,
Deputy Principal: Learning & Organisation

Learning Diversity and Wellbeing
Last week, we proudly launched our new ‘Passive Play’ space – a calm and supportive area designed for children who may find the busyness of traditional play times overwhelming. This space offers a gentler alternative for students who find social interactions like making and maintaining friendships, sharing, and navigating group play more challenging.
In some cases, Passive Play also serves as a ‘soft transition’ back into the classroom after breaks, helping children to settle calmly and be more ready to learn.
A special thank you goes to Marie, who has done an outstanding job training a group of dedicated Year 5 leaders to support this initiative. These student leaders have been instrumental in modelling positive behaviours such as setting up the space, using respectful language, and assisting with pack-up routines.
Congratulations to our incredible Year 5 Passive Play Leaders for their commitment, maturity, and the wonderful support they are providing to our younger students
Reminder – Confirmation Sacramental Passports
A friendly reminder that the Confirmation Passports are due by Monday 16th June. Please ensure they are handed to the office.
Thank You
Year 3 / 4 students' excursion to Federation Square and the MCG!
Student Reflection
On Friday, the grade 3 students went into the city. First, the grade 3’s hopped onto the bus. I sat with my friend Ava on the way there. Next, we walked around and looked at the different buildings and landmarks. We saw St Paul's Cathedral, Australian Catholic University, St Patrick's Cathedral, restaurants, cafes and the Victoria Market. Then, we went to the MCG and a man led us around the MCG and told us all about the history of sports. After lots of learning, we went to see a sports museum and we were handed wristbands that had a capital letter A on it. I went with Angelina to explore all the games in the ‘Game On’ exhibition. We played a game on a screen which asked us lots of questions about the MCG. Even though we got a few questions wrong, we still had fun! Finally, we went on the bus and back to school.
Miranda (3B)
Last Friday, the grade three students went on a bus to go to the city to learn about landmarks. Firstly, when we
arrived at the city, we got out of the bus and went in role order. Then we walked along the footpath at Federation square and saw St Paul’s Cathedral at the corner of the footpath. We continued and went through a black tunnel. After that, we saw a square like pyramid. Eventually we got to the playground after walking 2 - 3 kilometres! Then we walked on a bridge until we got to the MCG. We had lunch outside the MCG. We placed our bags in a cage in a certain spot, then we began the tour around the MCG. On the tour we went on to the grass area of the football grounds. We also went touring around other places like the sports Museum. Finally, we finished and went back to the bus and back to school.
SUNDAY GOSPEL
This Sunday’s reading is from the Holy Gospel according to John 16:12-15
Whatever the Father has is mine. The Spirit will receive what I give and tell you about it.
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I still have many things to say to you
but they would be too much for you now.
But when the Spirit of truth comes
he will lead you to the complete truth,
since he will not be speaking as from himself
but will say only what he has learnt;
and he will tell you of the things to come.
He will glorify me, since all he tells you will be taken from
what is mine. Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: All he tells you will be taken from what is mine.
Gospel Reflection
In the Gospel of John, today’s reading appears as part of the rather lengthy Last Supper discourse that runs from chapter 13 to chapter 17. The discourse is a centrepiece of this particular gospel. In it, Jesus speaks a number of times about the coming of the Holy Spirit. The portion that makes up today’s reading comes from a slightly longer passage about the sending of the Spirit (16:4-15).
Throughout the Last Supper discourse, the Holy Spirit is identified as Gift and Love. The Spirit is the Gift that will be sent by the Father and by the Son so that the world may continue to experience the Love of the Father and the Son. In the discourse, Jesus calls on the disciples to love one another with the same love that they had experienced from him – the love of God. To assist the disciples to continue to love with the same love of God and Jesus, the Spirit is sent to them. The Holy Spirit is the lasting expression of the divine love that had previously been experienced through the Father and the Son. The discourse makes it very clear that the Spirit will continue the work of Jesus.
Today’s passage has Jesus saying to the disciples that there is still so much that he has to say to them, to teach them. But the disciples are not ready to receive everything in the time that Jesus has remaining. So to continue the teaching of Jesus and to continue the expression of Love, the Father and the Son will send the Spirit. It was the sending of the Spirit that we celebrated last week in the feast of Pentecost, and it is the unity of Father, Son and Spirit that we celebrate this week in Trinity Sunday.
Historical Context - The Nicene Creed
The definitive statement of Christian belief is contained within the Nicene Creed that is proclaimed by the community in the Mass. It was developed by the Council of Nicea, held in 325, in response to a variety of teachings (some declared to be heresy) that were circulating at the time, and the creed was further revised in 381. The creed declares that Jesus is ‘God from God, light from light, true God from true God … of one being with the Father’ and that the Holy Spirit ‘proceeds from the Father and the Son’. All of these statements seek to define the oneness of the Trinitarian God.
Have you thought? Spoken through the peophets
One Creedal statement about the Holy Spirit is that ‘He has spoken through the prophets’. This statement of Christian belief is to reaffirm that the Spirit has played a role throughout human history and did not ‘come into being’ at Pentecost. In fact, a translation of the opening lines of Genesis reads, ‘and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters’. Although the Old Testament emphasises God the Creator, or the Father, the gospels emphasise the role of Jesus, the Son and the New Testament writings emphasise the work of the Spirit, all three expressions of God’s loving presence are beyond the limits of time and place.
Living the Gospel - Trinity
Every time we make the sign of the cross we reaffirm our belief in a God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Although some people have difficulties with the gender-specific language of ‘Father’ and ‘Son’ and look for other ways to express this reality, all Christian people profess a belief in the one God who is experienced in three distinct ways. We are baptised ‘in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit’ and we remind ourselves of this reality when we pray and when we bless ourselves or others.

Uganda Mission Trip:
We are pleased to share that Fr Gerard, Melanie, Rachael, Neil, Gretel, Joe, and Lina will be traveling to Uganda this July. This journey provides a special opportunity to meet the children we sponsor, connect with their families, and collaborate with local community groups to offer support and encouragement.
Each traveller will be covering their own expenses for this trip, ensuring that all contributions go directly toward supporting the communities we are visiting.
Our visit continues our parish’s commitment to fostering relationships and helping where it is most needed. Throughout our time in Uganda, we will engage with the children, parents, and broader community to strengthen connections and make a meaningful impact.
We ask for your prayers as we embark on this important mission. May our travels be safe, our efforts be fruitful, and our presence bring hope and joy to those we meet.
