Term 4 Week 1 of 11
Friday, 9th October 2026
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you may be aware there have been significant budget pressures on all Melbourne Archdiocese schools. Like all schools, we are responding to rising operating costs, broader economic pressures, funding pressures and the anticipated impact of the new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for our staff. These extra costs have placed some burden on our school. It is important to let you know that this is not a local budgeting issue. In fact, our increasingly strong budget situation has helped us get through these difficult times
I strongly support salary increases for our teachers. They are a necessary and deserved recognition of their work. All these budget pressures mean that schools need to carefully consider how best to manage their resources while continuing to deliver high-quality outcomes for students. Every decision moving forward next year was made within the context of getting the best for our students as well as balancing our budgets.
I wish to inform you of some things that will occur during 2027 to meet the school’s budgeting needs. I also thank the Resurrection School Advisory Council for their wisdom and support with these decisions.
School Fees
School Fees for 2027 have increased by the same percentage as last year. We are still under the expected fee for schools that fit within our socio - economic band and have worked hard to do this. You will also note an increase from $50 to $100 on the capital levy that supports major works in our school such as the recent
Year 1/2 building upgrades. Levies have not grown at all in most areas and slightly in others.
Camps
Camp levies have increased for 2027. The cost of attending camps and staffing camps will increase a lot during 2027 and beyond. The school still uses other sources to cover camps as they are getting increasingly expensive. What we charge you does not fully cover the camps and the staffing of camps.
You will notice the Year 3 camp levy of $110.
From 2027 onwards the Year 3 camp will be a day experience only. This will help to reduce the total we charge families. This will also help to prepare students for the night experience of Year 4,5 and 6 camp
The Year 3 camp will include
A day activity
Dinner and activities at school
7.30pm pick up from school.
Year 4 camp will then go to an overnight camp (two days and one night).
Year 5 and 6 camps will remain as two-night camps.
The Year 4,5 and 6 camps will remain at the same venues they have always been at.
Classroom Groupings
Melbourne Archdiocese Schools (MACS) have been directed to work towards a 25-student average in each class to make these new budget constraints work. To work towards this our classroom structures will change slightly for 2027.
In 2027 we will have 18 classes two less than our 20 this year
2 by Prep Classes of approximately 25 students
2 by Year 1 of approximately 24 students
1 by Year 1/2 17/7 with approximately 17 Year 1 students and 7 year 2 students
2 by Year 2 24/24 of approximately 24 students
3 by Year 3 of approximately 25 students
2 by Year 4 of approximately 24 students
3 by Year 5 of approximately 24 students
3 by Year 6 of approximately 27 students
I use approximately as numbers can fluctuate slightly if a student leaves or we get new students
Another option was to have two year 2 classes of 27 next year, but we felt this number was too large for a junior class at our school.
In writing this I realise the only real difference is the year 1/2 class. We have many plans to make sure this is a great experience for all the students, especially the Year 2’s. We will also discuss this with the parents of the Year 2 children who are in this class. Michelle Widdison, our Maths leader will also offer Maths support to students in this area. Lots of work will go into making this a success.
All The Other programs
Resurrection will continue to provide all the great programs we already offer such as Reading Intervention, Maths Support, Social Skills Programs, LSO Support, Speech Pathology and Counselling.
We remain committed to supporting all our students.
2027 Classes
This time of year, as school principal, I have one foot in 2026 and the other in 2027. Part of the preparation for 2027 will be our leadership team and our classroom teachers completing class lists. Planning for the 2027 school year has already commenced. Please email the office (office@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au) if your children are intending on leaving Resurrection at the end of year.
We are also inviting you to write about your child’s learning and social needs to assist us in the placement of your child into specific classrooms for the 2027 school year. Please note that we may not be able to provide you with exactly what you want, but we do try to do our best given the many and diverse factors that go into making up a class. If you have written to me in previous years, please write again for 2027.
Please email me, principal@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au with the heading “Confidential – 2027 Class Placement”. All emails must be received by Friday 23rd October at 3.30pm
Best Wishes,
Deputy Principal

Reminder Hats on for Term 4!
As the sun begins to shine brighter and the days grow warmer, it's time for our Term 4 sun safety reminder: all students are required to wear their school hats during outdoor activities.
Wearing a hat is a vital part of our SunSmart policy, helping protect students from harmful UV rays while they enjoy recess, lunch breaks, PE lessons, and other outdoor events.
What You Need to Know:
Hats are compulsory whenever students are outside.

What's our PBL focus for week 1 and 2 this term?…
Being a good sportsperson in primary school means playing fair, following the rules, and treating teammates, opponents, and referees with respect, whether you win or lose. This we know can be a challenging area for some kids.
Key Rules of Sportsmanship
Play Fair: Always follow the rules of the game and never cheat to get ahead.
Respect Officials: Listen to your teachers and referees and accept their calls without arguing.
Support Teammates: Cheer for your team and use kind words, especially when someone makes a mistake.
Win with Humility: Celebrate calmly and politely. Never brag, gloat, or make the other team feel bad.
Lose Gracefully: Stay calm if your team loses. Do not blame others or make excuses, and always shake hands or say "Good game"
HOW CAN YOU HELP AT HOME? … You can help by modelling respectful behaviour during family games, praising effort over the final score, and teaching kids how to handle big emotions.
Ensure you set clear expectations before starting a game, such as no complaining, no arguing over calls, and no giving up.
Change the Post-Game Questions: Instead of asking "Did you win?", ask "Did you have fun?" or "What did you do well today?"
Model Emotional Control: Children mirror adult behaviour, so stay calm and positive when you play games or watch sports yourself.
Validate Big Feelings: Allow children to feel disappointed or frustrated when they lose but guide them to express those feelings safely without aggressive behaviour.

We are excited to share that we will be holding a Colour Fun Run on Friday, 27th November.

SHOWCASE SPECTACULAR 2026
As always with our Resurrection school events, there is a large team of people involved in putting the event together, and this year’s Senior School performance, 'Showcase Spectacular', is a great example of the community team spirit we have here at our school.
Thank you firstly to our amazing school leadership team for their constant support and encouragement of staff and students when putting together these big school events. Their support is the reason we are able to organise these events for our school community, to give our students the opportunity to discover and showcase their talents in so many areas.
Thank you to Father Gerard for attending both of the evening performances and for always supporting our school events as part of the wider parish community.
To our incredible office and admin staff- Rachael Bonavia, Michelle Bonavia, Susan Buslon, and Helen Frigo, for their constant support and help in organisational matters for all of our school events. They are an incredible asset to our school and this year they organised all of the ticketing, programs, Instagram posts, newsletter advertising and even the pizza dinners for the performers before each show!
Thank you to all of our fabulous staff for the work behind the scenes during both performance nights to ensure that the children looked fabulous with all of the make-up and hair, and helping in a variety of backstage and front of house roles to make sure that everything ran smoothly. The team spirit from our staff was amazing as always!
Thank you to all of our Specialist teachers for their support and assistance in so many ways in the lead up to the show, and for always offering to help out when putting on school events.
Thank you to our new school maintenance officer, Wayne, for setting up the backdrop, staging, set pieces, audience seating, and for always offering to help out whenever needed.
Thank you to the amazing group of staff who did all of the make-up and hairstyles for the official cast photo shoot earlier in the term: Anna Attard, Paola Arredondo, Jackie Wolfe, Maeva Soba, Jolene Majer, Jenny Le, Daniela Mengato, Marcella Larizza, Melissa Pisani, and Georgia Tankey. The official cast photos will be put up on permanent display in the corridor outside the Performing Arts room as a 'memory poster', along with all of our previous school productions.
A huge thank you to Joanne Abos-Padilla Valesquez and Tosh Kaan for their incredible work in creating and designing props for the show, decorating and setting up the foyer, putting up all of the tinsel curtains on the scene boards, and for helping out wherever possible. Joanne also assisted with the circus skills training (being an expert herself at hoops and ribbons), and filmed both nights of the performance. Please note that the video of the show will be made available to all Grade 5 & 6 families later on in the term.
Thank you to our amazing Senior teachers and LSOs for their support and work during rehearsals in the lead up to the show. Their genuine love and care for the students was incredible to see, and their support of every one of them along the way was inspiring to observe.
A huge thank you to Georgia Tankey for her support and hard work in the lead up to the show, including being the stage manager over all 3 performances, coordinating everything backstage in regards to lighting, props and staging, and supporting the students in the stage crew so that the show flowed smoothly. Georgia also choreographed and rehearsed the Grade 6 Girls Dance Team for the Thursday evening performance, displaying her amazing talents and expertise in the area of Dance.
Our biggest thank you must of course go to our resident costume mistress, Mary Flahavin. As a teacher at Resurrection for over 30 years, Mary has organised the costumes for numerous performances over many years at the school, including the last 4 years of Grade 6 productions. Mary has a passion for costume design and show business in general, and I think you will agree that this year’s costumes for the show were incredible and really added to the overall experience for the children performing on stage, as well as for the audience. This year Mary had to design, find, and make over 300 costumes as we had a cast of 140 students over two nights of performances, many who needed multiple costumes for their different items. The detailed thought into how each performer would look, and then finding, making, and putting together all of the costumes was a huge task and one that Mary did with such enthusiasm and care. As a school community we would like to thank Mary for costuming the show for yet another year, and for all of the hard work that went into making all of the performers look so fabulous on stage!
And lastly, but most importantly, a huge congratulations to all of our Grade 5 & 6 students for 2026!!! Our senior students produced an incredibly entertaining show over two performance evenings, learning much about themselves and what they can achieve over many months of rehearsals. The way that the students all looked out for each other, encouraged and supported each other in the lead up to the show, was simply incredible to see. The way that they developed their characters, learnt their acting lines, song lyrics, music notes, and dance routines, followed their rehearsal schedules and attended many rehearsals in their own break times, showed dedication, discipline, and an enthusiasm for performing.
We look forward to the next Senior School performance in two years’ time, in 2028!
SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year 1
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 20:1-16
We Reflect
Who you ate with in Jesus’ time was very important – it reflected your own status. To share table with people who were regarded as ‘lesser’ by nature of their lifestyle or illness was seen to lessen the status of other participants. Sharing table was as much a political action as it was a social one. This week’s gospel is an important one for understanding Jesus’ message of an inclusive kingdom. The king invites all the ‘right’ people to attend his son’s wedding banquet but they shame him by refusing his invitation and murdering his messengers. This would have been an extraordinary action in Jesus’ time. An invitation to the table of your social superior would not be rejected lightly. To try to save face and regain some honour, the king sends his servants to bring in people off the street – the poorest and least socially acceptable people. The invitation to the people off the street, ‘bad and good alike’, is a reflection of Jesus’ own attitude to sharing table. Jesus ate with those who were regarded as unworthy: tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners. It was one of the harshest criticisms of Jesus made by the Pharisees and Scribes: ‘He eats with tax collectors and sinners!’ One of Jesus’ strongest messages was about the inclusive nature of the kingdom and he lived it day to day. His inclusive table fellowship was a powerful statement about the fact that the kingdom is an invitation to all – rich and poor alike, regardless of status in this world. This parable highlights the invitation to join in the kingdom of God that has been rejected by the Jewish leaders but taken up by the ‘lesser’ people of society. The wedding banquet is a metaphor for the kingdom of God.
REFLECTION by Greg Sunter
We Read
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son’s wedding. He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they would not come. Next he sent some more servants. “Tell those who have been invited” he said “that I have my banquet all prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to the wedding.” But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business, and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and killed them. The king was furious. He dispatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town. Then he said to his servants, “The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to be unworthy, go to the crossroads in the town and invite everyone you can find to the wedding.” So these servants went out on to the roads and collected together everyone they could find, bad and good alike; and the wedding hall was filled with guests.’
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
