Term 4 Week 2 of 11
Friday, 15th October 2026
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 4 is going along very quickly and it’s hard to believe we are two weeks down already. Sadly, our Year Prep to Year 2 school sports was postponed due to bad weather. As per the email sent out, we are running it again on this Monday October 19.
2027 Classes (2nd time in the newsletter)
This time of year, as school principal, I have one foot in 2026 and the other in 2027. Part of the preparation for 2027 will be our leadership team and our classroom teachers completing class lists. Planning for the 2027 school year has already commenced. Please email the office (office@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au) if your children are intending on leaving Resurrection at the end of year.
We are also inviting you to write about your child’s learning and social needs to assist us in the placement of your child into specific classrooms for the 2027 school year. Please note that we may not be able to provide you with exactly what you want, but we do try to do our best given the many and diverse factors that go into making up a class. If you have written to me in previous years, please write again for 2027.
Please email me, principal@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au with the heading “Confidential – 2027 Class Placement”. All emails must be received by Friday 23rd October at 3.30pm

Reminder Hats on for Term 4!
As the sun begins to shine brighter and the days grow warmer, it's time for our Term 4 sun safety reminder: all students are required to wear their school hats during outdoor activities.
Wearing a hat is a vital part of our SunSmart policy, helping protect students from harmful UV rays while they enjoy recess, lunch breaks, PE lessons, and other outdoor events.
What You Need to Know:
Hats are compulsory whenever students are outside.
Students without hats will be asked to stay in designated shaded areas.
Please check that your child’s hat is clearly labelled with their name.
Let’s work together to keep our school community safe and sun-smart.
Family Curriculum Overviews Available
To help keep you informed about what learning will take place in Term 4, the teaching teams have put together an overview of the term ahead. You can find these on Seesaw and on the school website.
2029 High School enrolments
Dear Year 4 families,
High School may seem a long way off, but just letting you know that applications for students starting Year 7 in 2029 will open on Wednesday 27th January 2027 and close on Friday 13th August 2027. Families are encouraged to apply to at least two
secondary schools to increase the likelihood of receiving an offer.
Thank You for Supporting Ubuntu Uganda
Late last term, we had a Footy colours day and collected a Gold Coin donation in support of the Ubuntu Uganda Partnership! Your generosity helped us raise an incredible $342.80, every dollar goes toward strengthening our connection and support for our friends in Uganda.
Best Wishes,
Thank you note from Uganda Fr Nestus

RE: APPRECIATION TO RESURRECTION CATHOLIC SCHOOL COMMUNITY FOR THE MONEY RAISED THROUGH A FUNDRAISER FOOTY DAY CLOURS.
On behalf of Our Lady Fatima – Buyaga Catholic Parish Community, and in particular, the Students, teachers and parents of Resurrection Vocational Secondary School, hereby express our deep heartfelt appreciation for the love, kindness and support you offer to our school; to care most especially for the greatly needy and disadvantaged members of our school. Many of our students couldn’t be in school now had it been not your support. We are glad that we have as a sign of God’s love and providence to us. Hearing and knowing that you think and care for being is a great source of hope and confidence that has encouraged many to persist through various challenges and reach where they wouldn’t. I am glad to inform you that we are having senior one to senior five and a population of over five hundred students in the four years of existence. Last year we had our first senior Four to sit for the National exams and they all passed well. Again, on Monday 12th October, we had our second senior Four start their national exams. Today they have finished their four papers. Maths, Chemistry, English and History. We have 41 students in senior five, a level that continues to give great hope for the students in lower classes, that it’s possible to keep in school despite the parents' little income.
Thanks very much for the contribution to this great hope and may God bless you most abundantly.
Regards,
Nestus

Reminder
Disability Parking
We have noticed that the disability parking bays have been used regularly by drivers picking up students that do not have a disability parking permit. The disability parking bays are specifically for those who have a disability and are the adult picking up a child. Disability parking permits are provided so that a person with the disability can access the disability parking bay. Please reconsider if you really require the use of one of these parking bays.
Year 3 STEM Excursion
Our Year 3 students enjoyed an exciting STEM excursion to St Kilda Beach, where they explored marine ecosystems and learned how human activities impact Port Phillip Bay. Students participated in a Little Penguin Tour, the CDS Vic Radical Recycle Relay, and a beach clean-up while discovering the journey of an aluminium can and the importance of recycling. These hands-on experiences helped students understand how small actions can make a big difference in protecting our environment.
We are also excited to introduce Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) at our school! We will be collecting eligible drink containers at school and returning them to raise money for future STEM excursions and to create our school garden! This initiative will help our students learn about sustainability while turning recycling into an opportunity to support more exciting learning experiences.
SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 22:15-21
We Reflect
The gospel writer presents this episode as a deliberate attempt by the Pharisees to trap Jesus and turn the people against him. Their plan was a good one, with no apparent ‘safe’ answer: is it permissible (within Jewish tradition) to pay taxes to Caesar or not? If Jesus were to answer that it is not permissible to pay taxes then he would be identified as a rebel and a threat to Roman authority – leaving himself open to severe punishment. If he were to answer that it was permissible to pay the taxes he would have alienated a lot of his audience who resented the taxes imposed by Rome.
Instead of falling into the trap set by the Pharisees, Jesus approaches the question in a completely different way. He asks them to show him the money with which they pay the tax. Immediately, he has turned the tables on them. He doesn’t appear to carry any of the coin in question and yet the Pharisees’ disciples carry them as a matter of habit. They are asking if it is permissible to pay the tax and yet freely carry the coin with which the tax is paid. Jesus shows up the hypocrisy of their question by forcing them to reveal their own position in the simple action of producing one of the Roman coins. Jesus then closes the dispute by instructing them to render (give) to Caesar what belongs to Caesar but, more importantly, render to God what belongs to God. In a very simple way Jesus has shown up the Pharisees’ disciples as being collaborators with the Roman authority and placing that authority above the authority of God. He reminds the listeners that regardless of earthly authority, the first duty is owed to God.
REFLECTION by Greg Sunter
We Read
The Pharisees went away to work out between them how to trap Jesus in what he said. And they sent their disciples to him, together with the Herodians, to say, ‘Master, we know that you are an honest man and teach the way of God in an honest way, and that you are not afraid of anyone, because a man’s rank means nothing to you. Tell us your opinion, then. Is it permissible to pay taxes to Caesar or not?’ But Jesus was aware of their malice and replied, ‘You hypocrites! Why do you set this trap for me? Let me see the money you pay the tax with.’ They handed him a denarius, and he said, ‘Whose head is this? Whose name?’ ‘Caesar’s’ they replied. He then said to them, ‘Very well, give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God.’
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

On 18 September 2026, while travelling in Cambodia to participate in meetings with other human rights activists, both men were unlawfully seized by Vietnamese secret police operating extraterritorially in Cambodian and ordered their detention in Saigon.
At the time of their abduction, they were preparing to board a scheduled commercial flight to Bangkok, where their relatives were waiting. Their confirmed itinerary clearly demonstrates that they had no intention whatsoever of entering Vietnam…”
