Term 3 Week 5 of 10
Friday, 14th August 2026
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Carers,
It was such a wonderful experience to see our Year 4 students celebrate their first Holy Communions over the last three weekends. Our students were very reverent and looked wonderful in their special communion clothes. A special thank you to Fr. Gerard for leading the Masses and being so caring towards our students on their special occasion.
Thank you to Matthew Dalton for all the preparation, organisation and hard work before the communions and on the day. Thanks to Anna, Melanie and Rachael who worked with our Parish children and supported Matt at the communions and in the preparation. It was heartwarming to see the many staff that attended the communions and shared in this experience with our students, families and our parishioners.
This is a great example of the strong bond between our parish and our school and something
that we should be proud of.
Earlier this year it was announced that CRC Caroline Springs will transition to a Years 7-12
college. The next stage of this transition will mean CRC St. Albans, CRC North Keilor and CRC Sydenham will transition to a Years 7-12 educational offering, creating one school across three campuses from 2028. This next stage will provide current and future students with greater continuity throughout their education, integrated pastoral care across one school community, greater collaboration across campuses, and the sharing of resources and best-practice, enabling students to access a richer and more diverse learning experience.
Best Wishes,
Monday, 17th August is a school

Let’s celebrate the dads who make a difference.
God is here.
He is present in the Eucharist and alive in us!
During the last 3 weekends and over 9 weekend Masses, we celebrated both our students and Parish program communicants who received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. We welcome these students to the gift of the Eucharist, and we sincerely thank families for their ongoing support throughout this Sacramental journey and for supporting their child as they continue to grow in Christian faith.
Receiving Jesus for the first time is a momentous occasion that was beautifully shared with the wider Resurrection Parish community. May the children’s First Communion be the first of many!
I would like to echo Adrian’s earlier sentiments.
Thank you, Father Gerard, for his leadership and pastoral care he provides for the children of Resurrection Catholic Parish. We are blessed to have you!
Thank you to Mrs. Melanie and Mrs. Rachael from the Parish Admin team for their arduous work in the preparation of these Sacraments. Everything ran so smoothly because of your efforts.
Thank you to Anna, who worked with our parish children, and to our Year 4 teachers, who spent several weeks helping prepare the students to understand the Sacrament.
And finally, to the parishioners of Resurrection. Thank you for being so kind, supportive and caring towards our children. You certainly made them feel welcome in the parish community!
Wellbeing, Community & Child Safety
Our focus for our Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons will be on Bullying for the next 2 weeks.
The students will unpack what Bullying looks, sounds and feels like and look at ways to deal with or stand up to someone who is hurting them.
Did you miss your Smile Squad dental visit?
The Smile Squad team from Oral Health Victoria (OHV) have now completed their visit at our school. During this time they provided free dental care to students who returned a signed consent form.
If anyone in your family returned their consent form but didn’t get seen, it’s not too late.
You can either:
Book an appointment at IPC’s community dental clinic. Just let the team know you signed up to Smile Squad and returned a consent form. This is a free service.
Or, if you prefer, wait until the Smile Squad team returns to our school from 22–26 February to complete treatment if you have already submitted a signed consent form.
Please note: No new consent forms will be accepted during our return visit. We will only be seeing students whose signed consent forms were received during the original consent period.
Contact the team at:
IPC Health
1 Andrea Street,
St Albans

The Smile Squad team look forward to seeing you soon.
This week, students have been given the opportunity to enter a range of book week competitions.
There are 5 competitions to enter:
- Create your own story
- Colouring in
- Guess the picture
- Design a book cover
- Spelling Bee
If your child has asked to enter any of these competitions, they will start to bring home the competition sheets to work on.
Whilst these are to be done at home, we do want the ideas and work to be the child's so that the competition is fair. Please encourage them and support them at home to do their best but ensure it is them putting in the effort to complete it.
All entries are due MONDAY 24TH AUGUST (Week 7).
This gives students 2 weeks to work on these entries.
There will be book prizes for the winners of these competitions which will be given out during book week in week 7.
We also have our BOOK WEEK PARADE on Monday 24th at 9am.
We invite and encourage all families to come along and join in on the fun!
If you haven't already, it is also the time to start asking your child what they want to dress up as for this parade.
Attached are some costume inspiration ideas and the book week competitions poster.
Thank you for all your support in providing a love of books to your children through this upcoming special celebration.

SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 15:21-28
We Reflect
This week’s gospel provides a fascinating illustration of Jesus’ response to those in need. Jesus has travelled to the area of Tyre and Sidon – part of modern day Lebanon. He was physically removing himself from the place of his very active ministry and taking a break. When the Canaanite woman approaches Jesus and his disciples, she is an interruption; a nuisance. Jesus is very abrupt with her. He tells her simply that his ministry is to the house of Israel – the Jews – and is not for her. But the woman is persistent and again asks Jesus to help her. Jesus is even more abrupt and tells her that it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs. Through this use of metaphor, Jesus refers to the children of Israel (the Jews) and to the gentiles and pagans – sometimes referred to as ‘dogs’ to reflect their lowly status in the eyes of the Jewish tradition. Still the woman persists and turns Jesus’ metaphor back on him, saying that even the dogs get to eat the scraps that fall from the table.
The woman’s persistence and faith pay off. Jesus is moved by her faith and through that faith heals the woman’s daughter. Despite his initial abruptness and reluctance, Jesus responds with compassion to the woman’s request. It is as though she needed to demonstrate that she was really serious and that she did in fact believe that Jesus could make a difference in her life and the life of her daughter. This is an important story in Matthew’s gospel. This gospel was written predominantly for Jewish Christians but this story reveals that the ministry of Jesus and the reign of God is open to anyone who believes.
REFLECTION by Greg Sunter
We Read
Jesus left Gennesaret and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Then out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, ‘Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.’ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples went and pleaded with him. ‘Give her what she wants,’ they said ‘because she is shouting after us.’ He said in reply, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.’ But the woman had come up and was kneeling at his feet. ‘Lord,’ she said ‘help me.’ He replied, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the house-dogs.’ She retorted, ‘Ah yes, sir; but even house-dogs can eat the scraps that fall from their master’s table.’ Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted.’ And from that moment her daughter was well again
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
