Term 3 Week 6 of 10
Friday, 21st August 2026
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Carers,
Term 3 is really flying, and I can feel the weather getting a bit warmer in the mornings. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
There are lots of things happening this term.
Monday August 24th at 9am is our Annual Book Week Parade. Our students will be dressed up to represent their favourite book. Our staff will be dressed up as well. You are most welcome to come along and watch our parade out in the school courtyard.
Monday August 31st is our Father’s Day stall. See below for more details.
Friday September 4th beginning at 7.30am is our Father’s Day Breakfast. We have bacon and egg burgers and a sausage for the kids. At 8.30am the dads are encouraged to line up with their kids and visit the rooms for some games until 9am.
School Closure Day
On Monday Fr Gerard and our school staff were part of a wonderful school closure day run by Rachel Holdsworth who is the principal of Holy Spirit, Manifold Heights. Led by Rachel, our whole staff looked at what it means to be people of the Resurrection by reflecting on scripture and what these calls us to be. We developed ways of doing this by
-Connecting with scripture
-Explicitly learning about scripture in action
-Building shared language and understanding
- Recognising God in ourselves and others
It was a great day.
Best Wishes,
Deputy Principal

Let’s celebrate the dads who make a difference.
This week, students have been given the opportunity to enter a range of book week competitions.
There are 5 competitions to enter:
- Create your own story
- Colouring in
- Guess the picture
- Design a book cover
- Spelling Bee
If your child has asked to enter any of these competitions, they will start to bring home the competition sheets to work on.
Whilst these are to be done at home, we do want the ideas and work to be the child's so that the competition is fair. Please encourage them and support them at home to do their best but ensure it is them putting in the effort to complete it.
All entries are due MONDAY 24TH AUGUST (Week 7).
This gives students 2 weeks to work on these entries.
There will be book prizes for the winners of these competitions which will be given out during book week in week 7.
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, there will be some fun activities planned for the week including a spelling bee and of course our very special annual Book Week Parade which will take place on Monday 24th August 9:00 am in the Courtyard. Parents are welcome to attend the parade as our students showcase their fabulous costumes.
Thank you for all your support in providing a love of books to your children through this upcoming special celebration.

SHOWCASE SPECTACULAR

Grade 1 & 2 Nature Journal Incursion
Our Grade 1 and 2 students recently took part in a calming and creative Nature Journal incursion, where they explored how elements from the natural world can inspire both drawing and writing. Using leaves, twigs, stones, and textures found outdoors, students learnt to observe closely, sketch thoughtfully, and record their reflections with care.
This session introduced journaling not only as a learning tool but also as a gentle form of meditation. Students discovered how slowing down, noticing details, and expressing their observations on paper can help them feel centred and connected to their surroundings. Through guided activities, they practised mindful attention — listening to the sounds around them, feeling natural materials in their hands, and capturing these experiences in their journals.
Grade 3 & 4 Biodiversity Audit
Students took part in a hands-on Biodiversity Audit, exploring the animals and plants that make up our school’s natural environment. They observed and recorded birds, insects, arachnids, canopy trees, bushes and grassland species, learning how each contributes to a healthy ecosystem. Students also brainstormed ways to increase biodiversity at school, suggesting ideas such as chickens, a pond, composting and a veggie or herb garden.
Expression of Interest to Host a
Japanese University Student – Term 1, 2027
We are delighted to offer our school community another exciting opportunity to support our Japanese language program by hosting a Japanese university student during Term 1 (February - March 2027). Many of our students and staff fondly remember Koko Sensei, who spent three wonderful weeks at our school this year. Her visit provided students with valuable opportunities to develop their Japanese language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture. We hope to welcome another Japanese university student in 2027 to continue this enriching experience. We are seeking expressions of interest from families who are willing to host the visiting student for either one week or the full three-week stay.
Host families will be asked to:
Provide a welcoming and supportive home environment.
Offer the student a private bedroom.
Provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day.
Transport the student to and from school each weekday.
If hosting during the first or third week, collect the student from the airport upon arrival
And/or take them to the airport at the end of their stay.
Hosting is a voluntary opportunity and a wonderful way to share Australian family
life while learning about Japanese culture firsthand.
If your family is interested and able to meet the above requirements, we would love
to hear from you. Please submit your Expression of Interest via
email(yaiki@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au) by Friday, 18 September 2026.
Should you have any questions about this opportunity, please don’t hesitate to contact me using the email address above.
Thank you for considering this rewarding opportunity to support our Japanese language program and provide a memorable experience for our visiting student.
Warm regards,
SUNDAY GOSPEL

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 16:13-20
We Reflect
Jesus asks the disciples who people say he is. They report that people associate Jesus with one of the great prophets of Jewish tradition. By identifying Jesus with other great prophets they were projecting Jesus into the same mold as that prophet. What they were saying was that Jesus will be a great leader in the style of John the Baptist, or Elijah or even Jeremiah. The expectation of a messiah was running very high at the time of Jesus and everyone had their own idea about what that messiah would be like – usually aligned with some previous leader. They didn’t seem to understand that Jesus was breaking the mold and was not going to fit in with any of those expectations. To see him as one of the great prophets come again is always going to be an inadequate understanding of Jesus as messiah.
When Jesus pushes the disciples for their own ideas, it is Simon Peter who speaks up and identifies Jesus as being the Son of the living God. Making a play on Peter’s name (in Greek, petros = Peter and petra = rock), Jesus states that hereafter, Simon Peter will be known as Peter and upon the rock of his profession of faith the church will be built.
REFLECTION by Greg Sunter
We Read
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said, ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’ Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
