Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Carers,
As you would be aware we run the PBL program at Resurrection. PBL or Positive Behaviour for Learning is aimed at creating a respectful, resilient and responsible community. This helps create a calm environment where students feel safe, teachers can teach and students can learn. Marie D'Orazio, our Student Wellbeing Leader, writes about PBL often in her section of the newsletter. In this newsletter I wanted to focus on three key components of flourishing students that we are developing on a regular basis through our PBL and social skills programs
They are
Knowing, naming and understanding our emotions
Dealing with difficult emotions
Seeking help from adults where needed
I want to highlight a conversation I had with a student a few days ago, which shows the above in action. I was outside on the yard talking to some students at lunch time. A student approached me and asked to speak to me. They said the following, (which really impressed me). “I’m not going well at soccer today. A student is not following the rules properly and it’s making me angry and frustrated and I need some help”. Firstly, I told the student well done and this is far better than this turning into an argument or a fight. I went for a walk and talk with the student, and we discussed the frustrations and together worked out a way forward. This involved the student talking to the other student about their frustrations and us going through the rules etc. We had a positive outcome.

This led to a situation that could have turned into a major problem being dealt with in a calm, gentle and respectful manner. Each day I see our students improving with this, especially with seeking help. It’s a positive way of becoming a flourishing member of our community.

Family Curriculum Overviews
Family Curriculum Overviews Keep an eye out for the Term 3 curriculum overviews for families which will be posted to Seesaw for your reference. This gives a great snapshot of what learning is taking place at school and even highlights some helpful tips for you to support learning at home. Special dates are also listed on the overview that are relevant to your child’s year level.
Year Level Masses for Term 3
The Eucharist is the ‘source and summit’ of our Christian life, and at our school, it is no different. Offering opportunities to gather and celebrate Holy Mass together as a community is an integral part of our school life. Our Year Level Masses are organised and run by the staff and students from each respective level. Aristotle famously says, "what we have to learn to do, we learn by doing," and what better way for our students to learn about Mass, than to participate in the organisation of it.

Celebrating the Book Fair
Once again, our Scholastic Book Fair was an absolute success! By contributing to the Book Fair, we earn rewards which we use to stock up on texts for our library and classrooms so that our students have access to engaging, high-quality texts. I hope you are enjoying your purchases at home. A special thanks to Marcella, Christine and Susan who gave up their time to organise and run this event.

This term, our wonderful Preps are celebrating their 100th day of learning on Tuesday the 4th of August.
This day will be filled with lots of fun and exciting activities for students to enjoy, to celebrate this momentous achievement of their learning journey.
The preps are invited to dress up as though they are 100 years old on this day or this year they can dress up in their brightest/ sparkiest colours to show they are 100 days brighter. See below for examples.

Wellbeing, Community & Child Safety
At Resurrection school, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. Child safety means creating an environment where all children feel safe, respected, included, valued, and protected from harm.
What Child Safety Means
A child-safe school:
Protects children from physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual harm.
Promotes respect, kindness, and inclusion.
Encourages children to speak up if they feel unsafe or worried.
Listens to children and takes their concerns seriously.
Responds promptly and appropriately to any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.
How Our School Promotes Child Safety
Apart from providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment, we also teach students about personal safety, respectful relationships, online safety, and how to seek help. Last week we spent a week on Child Safety, and every class now has a poster that highlights the people they can trust and talk to. See below
How Can YOU As Parents Support Child Safety
Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children stay safe. You can:
Talk regularly with your child about their day at school.
Encourage them to share their feelings and let you know if something doesn’t seem right.
Teach them about respectful relationships, personal boundaries, and safe online behaviour.
Reassure your child that it is always okay to speak to a trusted adult if they are worried or uncomfortable.
Keep your contact details up to date so the school can reach you if needed.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
AA reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 14:13-21
We Reflect
Jesus nourishes us. In a world that is fraught with meaninglessness, he offers purpose; to a world that is stumbling in darkness and confusion, he provides direction. He satisfies the hungry heart; he enlivens the drooping spirit. Those who follow Jesus will never be left to languish in the desert. If we but open our eyes, we will be amazed at the bountifulness of the nourishment that is provided for us. We will discover that God is magnanimous, even prodigal in giving, that God’s generosity exceeds all of our expectations and also our understanding.
Furthermore, we are nourished by God through the ministry of each other, through the simple things of life, (distributing bread and gathering up the fragments): visiting the sick and consoling the grieving; caring for a child and giving aid to an elder; bagging groceries and directing a choir. If we but open our eyes, we will be astounded at how ordinary actions can satisfy our hunger and the hunger of others.
Most amazing of all is that this nourishment is given freely; there was no thought of requiring payment. God simply invites: Come! All we have to do is reach out our hands to receive and we will never be sent away to find nourishment for ourselves. We will discover that a bond is established that endures. Jesus is filled with compassion, a compassion that is not a fleeting emotion, but an enduring attitude. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.

We Read
When Jesus received the news of John the Baptist’s death he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves. But the people heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.
When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, ‘This is a lonely place, and the time has slipped by; so send the people away, and they can go to the villages to buy themselves some food.’ Jesus replied, ‘There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they answered, ‘All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.’ ‘Bring them here to me,’ he said. He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves he handed them to his disciples who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected the scraps remaining, twelve baskets full. Those who ate numbered about five thousand men, to say nothing of women and children.

Grade 4 Celebrate Their First Eucharist
This weekend some of our Grade 4 students received their First Eucharist. Surrounded by family, friends, teachers, and parishioners.
Over recent months, the students have explored the meaning of the Eucharist, learned about the symbols and reflected on what it means to be part of a faith community. Their preparation has been thoughtful and heartfelt, supported by classroom learning, family discussions, and guidance from our parish team.
Last weekend’s celebration was a beautiful expression of community. The children approached the altar with quiet confidence, and their joy was unmistakable. For many families, it was a moment of pride and gratitude, a chance to witness their children take an important step in their spiritual lives.
Please join us in congratulating our Grade 4 students as they continue to grow in faith, understanding, and connection with our school and parish community.
Please keep these children in your prayers as we continue to celebrate the First Eucharist over the next 2 weekends.

Mass of the Assumption
The Mass of the Assumption will be celebrated on Friday, 14th August at 7.00pm and at our usual weekend Masses. All are warmly invited to join us for this special feast day.
Shape the Future: Be Counted as Catholic this Census
Australia’s national Census will be held on 11 August 2026. Catholics are encouraged to mark “Catholic” in the question on religion. In a time when some would seek to diminish the importance of faith, it is vital that the Catholic community be represented in our national statistics. Census data supports Church pastoral planning and contributes to government decision-making on health, education, infrastructure, and social services – guiding resource and funding allocations across Australia. By identifying as Catholic, you can help ensure that the contribution and needs of faith communities are properly recognised and considered in future planning and policy decisions.
Clergy Conference
Tuesday 11th August to Thursday 13th August Fr Gerard will be attending a conference so there will be no Masses on Tuesday or Thursday. The focus of the assembly is becoming a Catechumenal Church with Bishop Etienne Veto from France.

Arrival of the Pietà Statue
We are pleased to inform parishioners that our new Pietà statue will be arriving shortly. It is scheduled to arrive early next week, and once it has been safely received, it will be placed in the garden bed outside the church for prayer and reflection.
Thank You to the Iraqi Community
We thank the Iraqi community youth group for their generous donation of $430.80 to support our Uganda mission. Your kindness and willingness to help these children flourish is deeply appreciated.
Your contribution makes a real difference, and we are grateful for your ongoing support of this important work.
