Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Carers,

This week, our school has been filled with an extra layer of warmth, nostalgia, and joy. Yesterday we opened our doors to celebrate some of the most important people in our students’ lives: our wonderful grandparents, great grandparents and special friends! Grandparents day is one of my favourite days of the school year. It reminds me of the role of my grandparents in my life, my own children's lives and the lives of the students at our school. We have family night at my place on Wednesday nights. This week I just sat back and watched the wonderful relationship between my daughter and my mum. I love watching the wisdom and love that is shown but especially the humour. My mum and my daughter bring laughter and joy into each other's lives.

The School Interview booking system is now open for bookings for our upcoming Parent Teacher Conversations scheduled for Thursday, 30th July from 12:45pm to 8pm. Students will finish at 12pm on this day.

The bookings are allocated to 15-minute time slots to allow teachers to meet with each family. The meetings will be held in your child’s classroom.

Smile Squad free Dental Program

The Smile Squad team from Oral Health Victoria are coming to our school.

Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.

This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment.

Celebrating Grandparents Day

Resurrection Primary School warmly invited all grandparents and special grandparent figures to join us on Thursday to celebrate Grandparents Day.

The special occasion was our way to say thank you for the love, wisdom, support and encouragement that grandparents bring to our lives everyday.

Our school community spoiled our grandparents with liturgy celebration, classroom visits and a delicious morning tea.

Grandparents hold a unique and treasured place in our hearts, and we were excited to honour them on this special day.

School Fees

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful break.

Last week, families should have received their Term 3 school fee statements via email. If you have not received your statement, please check your junk or spam folder before contacting the school.

Thank you to the many families who continue to meet their school fee commitments. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated and helps the school provide valuable learning resources, programs and opportunities for all students.

A reminder that school fees were due on 10 March 2026, unless a payment arrangement has already been established with the school. Families with outstanding balances are kindly asked to attend to these as soon as possible. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact the school to discuss confidential support and flexible payment options.

This term, our wonderful Preps are celebrating their 100th day of learning on Tuesday the 4th of August.

This day will be filled with lots of fun and exciting activities for students to enjoy, to celebrate this momentous achievement of their learning journey.

The preps are invited to dress up as though they are 100 years old on this day or this year they can dress up in their brightest/ sparkliest colours to show they are 100 days brighter. See below for examples.

Sacramental Formation Night

Tuesday evening’s faith formation session brought together families of students preparing to receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. It was a night shaped by reflection, hope and the strength that comes from shared faith.

Our guest speaker, Michelle Newland, offered a profoundly moving account of her personal journey. Michelle, a former student of Resurrection Primary School who later attended CRC St Albans, spoke with honesty and grace about the moment her life changed forever. At the age of nineteen only three days after her birthday, Michelle returned home from a night out and suffered a severe asthma attack. In an instant, the Newland family’s world was turned upside down.

Michelle’s retelling of her experience held the room in complete stillness. Her story of survival, recovery and rebuilding did not leave a dry eye in sight. She shared how her faith, hope and love and prayers, carried her through the darkest moments. Her courage, determination and trust in God’s presence have shaped the woman she is today. In Michelle’s words “Focus what you can do rather than what you can’t do”.

For our families preparing their children for the sacraments, Michelle’s testimony offered a powerful reminder: Faith is not only something we learn,it is something we live. It strengthens us, guides us, and surrounds us through the people who walk beside us.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Michelle for sharing her journey with such openness and generosity.

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 13:24-30

We Reflect

The twin parables of today’s gospel – the treasure in the field and the pearl of great value – reveal a paradoxical truth about the kingdom of Heaven. Throughout the gospels, Jesus presents the kingdom as ‘now but not yet’; as ‘present but future’. This paradox is captured in these twin parables. In both cases, the kingdom is likened to something of great value that is discovered but cannot be immediately grasped. In both parables, the finder must go away and sell everything so that they can eventually come to possess the treasure they have discovered.

By comparing this experience with the kingdom of Heaven, Jesus suggests that most of us can only ever catch glimpses of what it means to live in the kingdom. For most of us, only in the future reality of heaven will we ever fully come to understand the kingdom. However, those glimpses that we catch – those moments of inspiration and connection with God and with one another – are like the treasures of the parables. They are enough to inspire us to do what it takes to make sure that we will one day enter into that kingdom reality.

The third parable of this gospel passage reveals yet another truth about the kingdom. The dragnet thrown into the sea is like the message of Jesus – it is flung far and wide and does not discriminate about where it falls or on whom it falls. This parable rounds out the chapter that began with the parable of the sower and the image of casting the net is a neat parallel to the indiscriminate casting of seed. It is not up to the one who casts the net, the seed or the Word. Rather it is up to each individual to determine how they will respond to receiving the Word.

Jesus said to the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field.

‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.

‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea that brings in a haul of all kinds. When it is full, the fishermen haul it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in a basket and throw away those that are no use. This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just to throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

‘Have you understood all this?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well, then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.’

Mass of the Assumption

The Mass of the Assumption will be celebrated on Friday, 14th August at 7.00pm and at our usual weekend Masses. All are warmly invited to join us for this special feast day.

Arrival of the Pietà Statue

We are pleased to inform parishioners that our new Pietà statue will be arriving shortly. It is scheduled to arrive early next week, and once it has been safely received, it will be placed in the garden bed outside the church for prayer and reflection.
