Term 3 Week 1 of 10

Friday, 16th July 2026

Message from the Principal

A very big and heartfelt welcome back to everyone to begin Term 3. As you were aware I was on Long Service Leave for the last 6 weeks of Term 2. I got to travel around Europe, and it was an amazing experience. I wish to thank Matt Dalton for being such a great Acting Principal and the whole Resurrection team for the way they supported Matt. Travel is great, but it is nice to be back in this wonderful community.

Learning Diversity

Little Highway Heroes!

Little Highway Heroes is a fun and engaging program built around the idea that we are all travelling along the "Highway of Life."

Along our journey, everyone encounters challenges—from small bumps to medium-sized obstacles and even big roadblocks. Through this program, students learn practical strategies to navigate these challenges with confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset.

Using songs, puppets, stories, and hands-on activities, students will explore three key "highways":

  • The Playground Highway – building friendships, developing social skills, and solving problems with others.

  • The Emotional Highway – recognising, understanding, and managing feelings.

  • The Classroom Highway – developing learning skills, perseverance, and confidence in the classroom.

This term, we are excited to introduce the Little Highway Heroes program with selected Prep students. We look forward to seeing our young learners develop the skills and confidence to navigate life's bumps, both at school and beyond!

Winter Uniform Reminder – Term 3

As we begin Term 3, we’d like to remind all families that term 3 all students need to wear their full winter uniform. The cooler weather often means extra layers, so please ensure that all jumpers and outerwear are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This helps us return misplaced items quickly and reduces the growing collection in lost property.

A reminder that school hats are not required during Terms 2 and 3. This is a great opportunity to take them home, give them a wash or refresh if needed, and have them ready to return for Term 4, when sun-smart requirements resume.

Thank you for your support in keeping our uniform standards high and helping students stay organised throughout the year.

APPRECIATION FOR THE MONEY RAISED FROM CRAZY HAIR DAY TO SUPPORT STUDENTS AT Resurrection Vocational Secondary School - Uganda

We received the good news of the school fundraising in which you raised money to support our students. We greatly appreciate your kindness, love, care and support to our children to enable them to have a better future especially through the opportunity of getting education.

It is a very exciting and joyful moment for our students whenever they get some great news of your continued support to enable them to have the opportunity to stay at school. Being in school, staying at school until completion and having the scholastic materials to enable improved learning is a great privilege. There are some of the students who are in school but not sure whether they will complete their primary or secondary level. However, knowing that there some people who think about them and wish them well and success in life is a great motivation and a source of hope to continue striving.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 13:24-30

We Reflect

Today’s reading features Jesus presenting a parable to help explain to his disciples what the kingdom of heaven is like.

Darnel is a weed that looks exactly like wheat while it is growing. Only once the ears have formed can it be distinguished from the wheat. It is a malicious prank to sow darnel among wheat.

To describe the kingdom of God in these ways may seem a bit odd. Can the kingdom of God be a ‘corrupting’ or ‘souring’ or ‘irritating’ influence? The kingdom message of Jesus can be seen as a corrupting force in that it set about corrupting and destroying what was a flawed system. The parable also demonstrate that it only takes a tiny amount of this ‘corrupting’ influence to have a dramatic effect.

Think of a person you might consider to be a weed. Can you see any positive characteristics in that person? If you concentrated on those positives for a whole month, do you think your opinion of this person might change? Why or why not?

It’s lucky for us that God is the only one who distinguishes the weeds from the wheat.

REFLECTION by Greg Sunter

We Read

Jesus put a parable before the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everybody was asleep his enemy came, sowed darnel all among the wheat, and made off. When the new wheat sprouted and ripened, the darnel appeared as well. The owner’s servants went to him and said, “Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field? If so, where does the darnel come from?” “Some enemy has done this” he answered. And the servants said, “Do you want us to go and weed it out?” But he said, “No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pull up the wheat with it. Let them both grow till the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First collect the darnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn.”’

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

The Bishop’s view of Prayer in the parish

MEETING WITH THE GOSPEL REFLECTION GROUP AT THE PARISH OFFICE:

I was able to be present and meet members of the Gospel Reflection group.  This meeting takes place every month for approx. an hour.

Observation:

This is one of the ways that people are being initiated into a deeper relationship with the Lord and being more confident in living out their faith, formed in their relationship with Jesus.

Commend:

I commend the Gospel Reflection initiative because it is a Parish group that is deepening its faith in a very intentional way seeking to be more like Jesus and living out the Gospel.

I also commend Life is a journey – Parish Retreat led by Fr Chris McPhee. It is another example of inviting Parishioners to deepen their lives as women and men of faith in Christ.

I also commend The Men’s group which meets once a month, is very active and provides the opportunity for fellowship and in a real way deepens one’s faith through discussion and prayer.

You also have your Prayer groups on Wednesday morning and evening which also help to deepen the spiritual life of the Parish.

Encourage:

These groups and others that are present in the Parish are very important for deepening the faith life of both individuals and your overall faith community. Continue to nurture them as they do strengthen people’s faith and also help to deepen the faith of the community.
