Message from the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

As you would be aware, Resurrection Catholic Primary School is a PBL school. Listed below is the front page of our student PBL booklet

WWHHAATT IISS PPBBLL??

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a way for everyone in the school to work together to make it a happy and safe place to learn. It helps kids feel good, behave well, and do their best in school.

WWHHOO AAMM II AASS AA PPBBLL SSTTUUDDEENNTT?

I am a PBL student when I am respectful , responsible, and resilient.

Respectful:

I listen to others, use kind words, and take care of my classroom and playground.

Responsible

I complete my tasks, follow rules, and help my friends when they need it.

Resilient

I keep trying, even when things are tricky, and learn from my mistakes.

The three pillars of PBL are really important in our school and along with our strong faith are the cornerstone of how we work together in our school community. To develop this we teach PBL Lessons with a focus on areas such as

  • Listening and following instructions

  • Keeping our hands and fee to ourselves

  • Persist take risks and challenge myself

  • Focus on my learning

  • Move safely

  • Being accountable for my words and actions

  • Care for belongings and resources

We are also developing new resources to focus further on:

  • Goal setting

  • Asking for help

  • Bullying

  • Listening

  • Managing emotions

  • Being a good sportsperson

  • Cooperation

Friday, May 22nd will be my last day of Term 2 as I am taking Long Service Leave for the rest of the Term. Matt Dalton will be acting principal during this time and Marie Dorazio will be acting deputy principal.

Prior to some travel, I will be attending the 50th anniversary celebration Mass for our church parish on Sunday May 24. You are all warmly welcomed to the Mass at 10.30am and celebrations afterwards.

Best wishes

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit applications for the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) is fast approaching. All applications must be completed and returned to the school office by Wednesday, 2 July 2025.

The CSEF provides financial support to eligible families to assist with the costs associated with school camps, sports activities, and excursions. To qualify, applicants must hold a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card.

We kindly ask that all completed application forms be submitted to the school office as soon as possible. Please note that the school is not responsible for any late submissions and cannot guarantee processing of forms received after the deadline.

We also wish to remind families that school fees were due on 10th March 2026. We would appreciate families attending to any outstanding fees at their earliest convenience. If you are currently experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the school so that we can discuss support options available to you.

Mindful May message

The 7-7-7 rule for parenting is a technique that helps parents spend 21 minutes a day of undivided attention to a child: 7 minutes in the morning, 7 minutes after school/work, and 7 minutes at bedtime. It focuses on building emotional security and better behavior through consistent, intentional presence without phones.

  • Morning (7 Minutes): A calm, positive start to the day. Examples include having breakfast together, helping them pack, sharing affirmations, or just chatting while waking up, according to

  • After-School/Work (7 Minutes):
Reconnecting after separation. Instead of asking generic questions, this involves active listening, having a snack together, or engaging in a shared activity immediately upon seeing them, notes

  • Bedtime (7 Minutes): Winding down. Examples include reading, discussing the highlights of their day, or cuddling, which helps lower stress for both parent and child,

Give it a go … This method has been known to reduce behavioral issues, strengthen the parent-child bond, and make busy schedules more manageable.

Learning Diversity

As we continue to support the individualised needs of our students through our multi-tiered approach to intervention, we are excited to share that the Highway Heroes programme has officially commenced with the support of our Neurodivergent Coach, Katrina. Highway Heroes is an Australian school-based social and emotional learning programme designed for primary-aged children. The programme helps students develop practical skills to navigate friendships, emotions, bullying, resilience, learning challenges, and self-regulation in a supportive and engaging way.

The programme uses the metaphor of travelling on the “Highway of Life,” where children encounter “bumps and hazards” such as teasing, conflict, anxiety, frustration, or learning difficulties. Students are taught “Highway Tools” — strategies to help them cope and respond positively.

It is divided into key areas:

  • Social Highway — friendships, teasing, bullying, inclusion

  • Learning Highway — growth mindset, grit, persistence, organisation

  • Emotional Highway — emotions, calming strategies, resilience, self-management

The programme is commonly used in schools, therapy settings, and occupational therapy groups, especially for children needing support with emotional regulation, social skills, Autism, ADHD, anxiety, or resilience-building. Lessons are interactive, age-appropriate, and include parent activities and practical exercises.

At the moment Katrina is working to get the programme up and running with small groups and we hope then to expand it across the school so more children have the opportunity to participate in it.

Compulsory Sacramental Formation Night – A Reminder for All Confirmation Families

As we continue our journey of faith together, I would like to gently remind all our Confirmation families of our upcoming Sacramental Formation Night on Monday 19th May at 7.00pm in the church. This evening is an important part of the preparation process and supports both parents and candidates as they grow in understanding and readiness for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

We are blessed to have Fr Luke Bulley facilitating the session. He will guide us in exploring the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, helping our young people reflect deeply on the gifts they will soon receive.

Sacrament of First Eucharist - Passport reminders

For our families preparing for the Sacrament of the Eucharist, please remember to submit your sacramental passport to the school office at your earliest convenience.

Information regarding the booking link was sent via nForma last week. If you did not receive it or require any clarification, please contact either the school office or the parish office. We are always here to support you.

We look forward to sharing this meaningful evening with you as we continue to walk together in faith.

Celebrating Our Jubilee – All Families Welcome

As we joyfully mark this special milestone in the life of our community, we warmly invite all past and present families of Resurrection to join us for our Jubilee Mass on Sunday, 24th May.

The celebration will begin with Mass at 10.30am, followed by food, multicultural dancing, jumping castle, school tour & face painting.  This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends, revisit cherished memories, and celebrate the rich history that has shaped our parish and school.

Whether you have been part of Resurrection for many years or have only recently joined our community, everyone is welcome. We encourage you to come along, share in the joy of the occasion, and embrace the story of our vibrant and faith-filled community.

We look forward to celebrating this significant moment together.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

The Ascension of the Lord Matthew 28:16-20

We Reflect

The feast of the Ascension is really a kind of liminal moment in the Easter season. It is a time between times, a moment when we have left one place in our journey but have not yet arrived at a second. The glory of the Risen Christ has already been revealed in us, but not yet totally. The feast itself celebrates the exaltation of Jesus. Today we stand awestruck, watching Jesus ascend into the clouds of heaven, there to be enthroned at the right hand of God. Today we are overwhelmed by the reality of the divinity of the one whom we have known in his humanity. Like the conquering creator-god, he has overcome his enemy (death) and now reigns over his new creation (the church).

Christ who ascended into heaven in his body carries on what he began on earth through his new body, the church. He teaches through its apostles and evangelists. He ministers through its prophets and pastors. In and through the church, Jesus continues to heal and to comfort; to forgive and to include. We have not been left alone; we have his power, the same power with which he performed marvels when he walked the earth. We have not been left alone; we have each other. Together we make up the new body of Christ. Together we await the fullness of this body. It is this new body that stands in between the times, secure in what we have, confident of what we will be given.

We Read

The eleven disciples went to Galilee,

to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.

When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.

Then Jesus approached and said to them,

“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father,

and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
