Term 2 Week 3 of 10

Friday, 8th May 2026

Message from the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

We’ve had a wonderful week of Mother’s Day celebrations across our school community.

On Monday, our Mother’s Day Stall opened, giving students the chance to choose a special surprise for their mums or other important women in their lives.

We continued selling gifts before and after school throughout the week. A heartfelt thank-you to all the mums and in one case, an older sibling who generously volunteered their time to help. Your support is truly appreciated.

On Thursday, we came together for a beautiful Mother’s Day Mass, followed by classroom visits and a special morning tea. It was lovely to see so many mums gathered to celebrate such a meaningful occasion.

We thank our school community for helping make this Mother’s Day so special. We hope all our wonderful mums enjoyed the celebrations and felt the love and appreciation they so richly deserve.

An Ode to Mums

She is the finder of the "lost" socks,

The solver of the unsolvable box.

With a glance that can ground a storm in its tracks,

And a heart that carries the world on its back.

She’s the architect of the everyday,

Turning "we’ll see" into "it’s okay."

A master of snacks and the magic of tea,

The only person who sees what you’re trying to be.

She knows the silence before the tears,

And how to quiet the loudest of fears.

Through the sleepless nights and the longest days,

She leads the way through the tangled maze.

So, here’s to the patience, the grit, and the grace,

The warmth of her smile and the light of her face.

For the love that is selfless, steady, and true—

Mum, there is simply no one like you.

To all the mums and special women in our school community. We wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day. Thanks for everything you do. Enjoy your special day knowing that you are greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

2026 Whole School Photo Day

Monday 11th May

We are excited to announce that school photos are now available for ordering.

Attached are the ordering instructions and all orders must be completed online via the Elite School Photography website: https://eliteschoolphotography.com.au/ prior to the photo day on Monday 11th May using the login code ESP202515

To ensure that there is a consistency across all photos regarding the wearing of the school uniform and that our formal school photos represent both your child and the school as best as we possibly can, we have asked that all students are in the school’s Winter Uniform. Students who normally have sport on that day are asked to wear their full school Winter Uniform.

We are aware that there are several families that will be away on extended holidays. The photo catch up day has been booked for Friday, 15th May with only family and individual photos are taken.

Winter Uniform Reminder – Term 2

We’d like to remind all families that term 2 all students need to wear their full winter uniform. The cooler weather often means extra layers, so please ensure that all jumpers and outerwear are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This helps us return misplaced items quickly and reduces the growing collection in lost property.

A reminder that school hats are not required during Terms 2 and 3. This is a great opportunity to take them home, give them a wash or refresh if needed, and have them ready to return for Term 4, when sun-smart requirements resume.

Thank you for your support in keeping our uniform standards high and helping students stay organised throughout the year.

Additional Information:

● No anklet socks are to be worn with any uniform.

● Hair touching shoulders must be tied back with either school coloured scrunchie or hair ties. This applies to both girls and boys.

● No coloured nail polish allowed.

  •  Sleepers or stud earrings only. Please do not wear hoops or dangling earrings (this is a safety issue).

● Skirts and dresses are not to be shorter than just above the knee.

  • No fake eyelashes or eye makeup to be worn.

Wellbeing, Child Safety & Community Leader

The first ever cohort of the Western Bulldogs Foundation’s ‘Daughters of the West’ program kicked off here at Resurrection on Wednesday April 22 doubling from 10 participants to 20 sign-ups in the second week.

There have been many different streams of the DOTW program in previous years including Iraqi, Vietnamese, Indian and the general program available for women of all backgrounds. There is also a Sons of the West Program too!

The 10-week health & wellbeing program available free to 18+ who live and/or work in the area aims to encourage a healthier lifestyle, build resilience and strengthen connection amongst the community.

The participants in this current Filipino cohort include people from within the Resurrection community and surrounding suburbs. Every week an expert speaker shares health and wellbeing information plus group fitness activities tailored to all fitness levels get the participants up and active. Sisters, mothers, grandmas and even a great grandmother had a great time sweating it out in their Zumba and line dancing session last week wearing their free Western Bulldogs DOTW t-shirts.

Upon completion of the 10-week program there will be a graduation and graduation gift for the participants and a free excursion to watch the Doggies in action! Wednesday will be Week 3 of the program so if you are interested in joining, please fill in the form https://westernbulldogscommunityfoundation.org.au/daughters-of-the-west/

Eucharist Formation Evening

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our Grade 4 Eucharist families for joining us last Wednesday evening for the formation gathering with Fr Luke Bulley. Your presence, openness, and willingness to engage in meaningful conversation made the evening truly special.

This time together offered us a deeper understanding of the Eucharist, its significance, its mystery, and its place at the centre of our faith. It was wonderful to see families connecting, reflecting, and sharing in the spirit of preparation as your children take this important step in their faith journey.

We offer our sincere gratitude to Fr Luke Bulley for guiding us through such a thoughtful and enriching session. His insights helped us see the Eucharist not only as a sacrament, but as a lived experience of community, love, and encounter with Christ.

As we continue walking with your children toward their First Eucharist, we thank you for your support, your faith, and the beautiful example you set for them.

May this time of preparation be filled with grace and joy for your families.

Exciting news:

Students in years 3 to 6 will be taking part in a competition to become the Times Tables Rockstars of Victoria. Have fun practising your times tables. Every correct answer will bring your class and our school a step closer to becoming the Victorian Champions! You are all enrolled so go go go...starting May 12th for 3 days only.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

Sixth Sunday of Easter   John 14:15-21

We Reflect

Today’s Gospel is a continuation of last week’s Gospel: Jesus is speaking to his disciples at the Last Supper. In today’s reading Jesus offers encouragement to his disciples, who will soon see him crucified. He reassures them that even though he will leave them, he will not abandon them. Instead he will send them the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, through whom the disciples will continue to live in union with Jesus.

Jesus uses the term Advocate to describe the Holy Spirit, whom the disciples will receive. Another word used to describe the Holy Spirit is Paraclete, a legal term meaning “one who offers defense for another.” Note that Jesus says that he will send “another Advocate.” Jesus himself is the first advocate, interceding for his disciples with the Father.

In today’s reading Jesus contrasts his impending departure with the permanence of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus will leave to return to the Father, but the Holy Spirit will remain with the disciples.

Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, the disciples will come to know and appreciate the unity of the Son and the Father. They will also understand that they too participate in the communion between the Father and the Son: “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you” (John 14:20).

Today’s reading is one example of the contrast that John’s Gospel presents between the community of disciples, to whom God will reveal himself, and the unbelieving world, which will remain in darkness. The unbelieving world cannot accept the “Spirit of truth,” whom the disciples will receive. Only through the Spirit will God’s revelation and love be known.

We Read

Jesus said to his disciples:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

And I will ask the Father,

and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,

because it neither sees nor knows him.

But you know him, because he remains with you,

and will be in you.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

In a little while the world will no longer see me,

but you will see me, because I live and you will live.

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father

and you are in me and I in you.

Whoever has my commandments and observes them

is the one who loves me.

And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,

and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
