Message from the Principal
Dear parents/carers,
It has been another exciting and busy week at our wonderful school. On Monday our Year Prep, One and Two students had their Junior School Sports. Thanks to Mr Nathan for organising this and our parents and staff helpers for helping to run the day. It was great to see so many parents watching and supporting the day.
Last weekend and tomorrow many of our Grade 6 students were Confirmed. It was wonderful to celebrate this special occasion with our students, their families and our Parish.
On Tuesday we had our Fathers’ Day Stall. A big thank you to the mums who organised and staffed this event. We also celebrated Father’s Day with our school dads with breakfast on Friday. Thanks to many of our staff who met me at 6am to fire up the BBQ’s and get the day started with a bacon and egg roll for our dads.
Happy Father’s Day to all our dads and special men in our students and our lives. I’m looking forward to spending Sunday with my two wonderful children Josh (28) and Georgia (22) and my family, whilst also thinking of my beautiful dad who has passed away. I hope the day is a great day and a celebration of all those men who offer their love and support and a day of remembrance for those who have passed away.
“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers and singers of song.” —Unknown
Best wishes,

SUNDAY GOSPEL
Twentieth third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C
We Reflect:
In today’s gospel, Jesus invites us to imbibe his spirit of commitment and sacrifice in order to be his true disciples. He says, “If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife…and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple.” What does Christ mean by “hating”? He teaches and calls us to make a sacrifice and commit to our missions and calls.
Christ is not literally calling us to hate the members of our family to be his disciples. He loved and obeyed his parents. Also, his mother, Mary, was one of His first and best disciples. So, we too must love members of our family. He is not in any way preaching the gospel of hatred. Instead, he wants us to be more committed to his ministry. He wants us to be willing to sacrifice our comfort whenever duty calls.
Maximilian Kolbe did this in the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1941 by offering his life for a fellow prisoner so that he might live to take care of his family. Christ wants us to imbibe Paul’s spirit of sacrifice and commitment.
To be Christ’s disciple means being ready to make sacrifices. Carrying our cross and following Christ also means subduing our own will in order to do his. That is, to be prepared to give up anything. Without commitment and sacrifice, we remain attached to our will and cannot be faithful disciples of Christ. Without it, we cannot see the needs of others.
We Read: Lk 17: 25-33
Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and spoke to them. ‘If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother,
wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it?
Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who advanced against him with twenty thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.’

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection from Uganda Student from Resurrection Vocational Secondary College
A Visit to Remember That Always Puts a Smile on My Face.
That fateful Friday 5th July 2025 remains etched in my memory forever, a day that opened for me an unforgettable fantastic experience of joy and love into my school life. It remains unforgettable because it was the day when we welcomed our beloved visitors from Kings Park, Melbourne Australia. In my life, I had never prepared for too long before to achieve something like I had prepared to welcome our beloved sponsors. Personally, I am not a great musician but due to the love I have towards our Australian parents, I had to engage in the church choir so that we could give out a wonderful vibe to our visitors.
Our community of Buyaga and the entire school of Resurrection Vocational Secondary School had great preparations for our visitors that brought rumours in the whole district. Days and nights, east and west, we fought tooth and nail through participating in training and rehearsals so that we could impress our visitors. In fact, the last days of the arrival of our visitors were the entire school, our parish priest Rev. Fr. Nestus and the entire community had sleepless nights because we were eagerly waiting to welcome our earthly soothers from Australia. As the pen holder, I swear that the joy I experienced in those days had taken for so long without happening in my life. As they say that when you lay your bed, so you must lie on it, the final day came, and we had to welcome our visitors. We were all gathered in one area from morning until our sponsors arrived. Everyone was over excited, sounding drums beaten in every corner, singers singing up to their best voices and clapping, screaming and jumping took up that moment. Indeed, we experienced tears of joy by that time because we went into ecstasy that we never thought of. It was really a great surprise to us. We all gathered into the church and our beloved visitors introduced themselves to us. The group was led by Fr. Gerald, Mr. Joseph and his wife Lina, Mr. Neil and his wife Gretel plus the two fantastic twins Rachel and Melanie whom we nicknamed Nakato & Babirye the Ganda names that mean twins. For a short period, we stayed with them, my friends and I experienced a unique love from them. Within that period, we were united with each other through the daily masses led by Fr. Gerald.
I loved the puzzle games we used to play because they taught me that in life, one must be patient to succeed. I also enjoyed the lessons on the projector which was brought for us, and the lessons were led by Neil and Gretel. Up to now, the lessons I learnt are the ones that are helping me to succeed in life. Within the same period, God's loved twins Nakato and Babirye taught us that in life we must be happy no matter the circumstances. We used to have joked and played with them, participating in cultural dances, singing Fr. Gerald's most loved song "congratulations" by Richard Cliff and mimes together with them. There are two fantastic moments
I will never forget in my life. These are when our female visitors Gretel, Rachael, Melanie & Lina wore cultural dressings called gomesi during our Fr. Nestus' silver jubilee. Awesome, they looked amazing. Another moment is when we had a campfire on a barbecue. That moment meant a lot to me because we shared our life stories together. It was still the same day when Mr. Joseph was celebrating his birthday, we ate, drunk, danced until lame and we also played a game of directions. I the writer, my side east won the game. Time reached when we had to say goodbye to them. For sure, it was a moment of true tears. Shivering and sudden sickness covered each of us because we were not eager to lose even one of them. Dean Lewis a renowned musician sung that, " how do I say goodbye to someone who's been with me for my whole damn Life". Truely, we had to say goodbye to them. Although they left us, we shall never forget their unique love they showed to us. We thank them for the support of the school and the school dues, words of motivation, care and generosity. "Blessed is the hand that gives the seed of knowledge, for it feeds generations."(Adapted African wisdom). There's an African proverb which says that when the roots are deep, there's no reason to fear wind. This reflects the strong foundation laid by the founders. We shall forever miss you. We promise you that the only way to compensate your efforts is to become successful in future. We thank them for teaching us a song of Micheal Jackson "we are the world; we are the children" which made us to know that we are still remembered in life. There's no way I can explain my appreciation but let the almighty God reward them abundantly. We love them so much. To whom much is given, much is expected. Luke 1:49" The almighty has done great things for me".
