Term 2 Week 4 of 11
Friday, 9th May 2025
Message from the Principal
What a busy last couple of weeks we have had with celebrating Resurrection Day and Mother’s Day with our school and parish. It was wonderful to see our families on both occasions. These are two of many occasions that you can really see the strength of our wonderful community. A special thanks to the mums and dads who helped with our Mother’s Day Stall.
This term as a leadership team and as a staff we have put a lot of effort into refreshing our PBL protocols and practices. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) was introduced to Resurrection about 5 years ago and I’ve been told it had a great effect on creating a more positive and supportive learning environment. There would have been a lot of work go into the introduction of this program, but as we know often things need to be refreshed and improved. One of the things that I am passionate about is helping students learn about expected behaviors, school rules, ways of treating each other and how to be a flourishing member of our community from Prep all the way to Year 6.
We have been working on our:
Matrix - Ways to be Respectful, Responsible and Resilient at our school
Expected Behaviours - Our School Rules
Behaviour Flow Chart - What happens when these rules are broken
Record Keeping - How we keep records to help improve behaviour
And the most important one –
Teaching Positive Behaviour in Our School- Teaching lessons from Year Prep to Year 6 focussing on areas such as:
- Respectful listening
- Keeping our hands and feet to ourselves
- Persisting, take risks and challenge myself in my learning
- Focussing on my learning
- Moving safely
- Being accountable for my words and actions
- Taking care of personal and school property.

National Simultaneous Storyline - Wednesday 21st May
This exciting event is held every year and brings children all across Australia together to enjoy the same story at the same time. A picture book by an Australian author and illustrator is read aloud in schools, libraries, childcare centres, homes and more! Now in its 25th year, this fun and colourful celebration helps promote the joy of reading and supports learning in areas across the Foundation to Year 6 curriculum.
This year the picture story book that will be read all over Australia is ‘The Truck Cat’! This beautifully written and illustrated text is about cats and humans, immigration and identity, and homes lost and found! It is a lovely book that inspires kindness and compassion for all readers.
Our students will have an opportunity to engage in reading the text as close to the time of 12pm on Wednesday 21st May.
Photo Catch Up Day - Thursday 22nd May
We are aware that there are several families that were away on our whole school photo day on Thursday this week for a range of reasons. We have arranged for a photo catch up day for families who were unable to attend on Thursday. The photo catch up day has been booked for Thursday 22nd May. A friendly reminder that your child/ren will need to wear full winter uniform on this day also.

Enhancing Playtime Opportunities at Resurrection
At Resurrection, we are always committed to supporting our students in a variety of meaningful ways. Recently, we’ve focused on enriching playtime by offering a wider range of activities that cater to different interests and needs.
Through observation, we’ve identified an opportunity to further develop our students’ social and cooperative play skills. In response, Marie and I have been working together to establish a new “Passive Play Space” — a quiet, structured environment where students can engage in gentle, low-energy activities during break times.
This space will be supported by senior student leaders who will help guide play using Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) strategies, alongside a supervising teacher. The Passive Play Space will be located in the junior school building and will be available to students from Prep to Grade 2.
On occasions, behaviour rewards may equal a supervised 10-minute reward here.
We’re excited to offer this inclusive initiative and look forward to seeing the benefits it brings to our students’ social and emotional development.
Coming up this term Grade 5 Dance Battle!!!
On Friday the 27th of June all our Grade 5 students will be presenting a 'Dance Battle' performance featuring all students in 5A, 5B & 5C. Each class will perform a choreographed dance routine that they have put together during Performing Arts lessons this term.
All classes from Grades Prep, 1, 2, 3 & 4 will be attending the event. Parents are also most welcome to come along to the performance and cheer on the Grade 5 students! Please note that no video filming or photography of the event is permitted. The school will be taking some photos of the event using the school camera to share with families in the newsletter and on Seesaw.
On the day, Grade 5 students are asked to bring to school a colourful t-shirt, long pants (comfortable for dancing) and runners to change into just before the performance begins.
The Dance Battlewill be held in the school hall from 12.30pm-1.15pm and will be judged by using an 'applause meter' app which measures the volume of an audience's applause after a performance. The winning class will be announced at the end of all of the performances, with the winning class receiving a trophy to display in their classroom!!!

“Habemus papam!” – Latin for “We have a pope!”
Last Friday, we learned that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost elected as the 267th Successor of St
Peter. The newly elected Pope, who has taken the name Leo XIV, greeted the world with the words of the Risen Lord: “Peace be with you”
In his first address, Pope Leo XIV emphasised the need for the Church to be a place of welcome and dialogue: “We must seek together how to be a missionary Church, a Church that builds bridges, dialogue, always open to receive, like this square, with open arms.”
As the community of Resurrection Catholic Parish Primary school, we give thanks to God for the gift of Pope Leo’s leadership at this pivotal moment in the life of God’s people.
Mother’s Day Celebration
Last Friday, we celebrated our Marvellous mothers.
The morning commenced with gathering as a parish and school community to celebrate Mass. During Fr. Gerard’s homily, he reflected on the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa), "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Never underestimate the impact that those small daily tasks provide in helping our children be the best that they can be.
After Mass, our special Mother’s and caregivers visited their child’s classrooms. Walking through the classrooms and seeing families engaging with the activities was beautiful. Our students were very proud to have the opportunity to showcase some of their learning.
The session concluded with our mothers and special people gathering together in the Hall for some morning tea. It was great to get the opportunity to stop, reflect and say thank you for the incredible role that the mothers and caregivers of the Resurrection community provide for our children.
SUNDAY GOSPEL
This Sunday’s reading is from the Holy Gospel according to John 13:31-35
I give you a new commandment: love one another
When Judas had gone Jesus said:
‘Now has the Son of Man been glorified,
and in him God has been glorified.
If God has been glorified in him,
God will in turn glorify him in himself,
and will glorify him very soon.
My little children,
I shall not be with you much longer.
I give you a new commandment:
love one another;
just as I have loved you,
you also must love one another.
By this love you have for one another,
everyone will know that you are my disciples.’
Gospel Reflection
The passage from the Gospel of John actually comes from the Last Supper account, as is indicated by the opening line: ‘When Judas had gone’. However, the passage is being used during the post-resurrection Easter season. The passage about being glorified can be read in this context as referring to the crucifixion that was, rather than the crucifixion that is still to come in the original setting. The reference that Jesus will not be with the disciples much longer can also be read as an indicator towards the Ascension. It is a clever liturgical use of a gospel passage out of its intended context.
The second half of the gospel passage is perhaps the more familiar section. It is a common text for marriage ceremonies. However, sometimes its selection is purely based on the use of the term ‘love’. Earlier in his ministry, Jesus was asked which commandment was the most important. He replied that you must love the Lord your God with all your heart and that you must love your neighbour as yourself. (Mt 22) The ‘new’ commandment that he issues at the Last Supper is not so much a new commandment as a variation on a theme. The newness highlights the changes that are occurring in the small group of friends. His language conveys an imperative: you must love one another, ‘just as I have loved you’. He tells the disciples – and us – that the way they behave towards one another must be with the same love that Jesus treated them. And the love that Jesus gave was the love of God for all the world. So the love that Jesus commands the disciples (us) to show one another is nothing less than the powerful love of God.
Have you thought? Love
I love my dog! I love your hair! I love that new song! I absolutely love chocolate! We throw around the word ‘love’ so casually today that it has almost lost its meaning. The decision whether or not to say ‘I love you’ in a relationship has become a major dilemma – or alternatively, just the formula that has to be said to get what you want! Jesus did not use the word so casually or so inappropriately. He spoke of love very deliberately and very specifically. Jesus calls us to share in the selfless love that he modelled and to follow his example.
Gospel Focus - God’s Love
What does it mean to love as Jesus loved? The love Jesus poured out to all was an expression of God’s love that has been poured out to all creation since the very beginning and continues to be poured out today. God’s love doesn’t keep score. When humankind turned its back on God, God’s love continued to call them back to faithful relationship. God’s love is not conditional – whatever we do, God continues to love us. There is no barrier that we can construct that God’s love cannot get around. It is this sort of love that the new commandment demands of us.
Parish News
Parish Office Car Park
We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring the safety of all students during school pick-up times.
Recently, there was a near-miss incident where a child was almost struck by a vehicle in the Parish Office car park. To prevent future risks, we urge parents not to park in this area when collecting their children.
Your support in following this request will help maintain a safe environment for our students. Please use designated parking area via gate 1 to ensure the well-being of all children.
Sacramental Journey - First Eucharist
The First Eucharist will be held during the weekend masses on June 7th & 8th, 14th & 15th & 21st & 22nd.
There will be reserved seating for the First Communicates and their family.
Please keep these children in your prayers as they prepare for this important milestone.
.
Prayer Intentions Submission
We invite you to share your prayer intentions with us so that they may be included in our upcoming Mass. To ensure they are properly recorded and presented, please submit your intentions by Wednesday of the week prior to the Mass.
Kindly refrain from handing in names at the welcome desk just before Mass begins, as we want to ensure every request is given the proper attention and preparation.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Your prayers and intentions are a vital part of our faith community, and we are grateful for your participation.
