Term 2 Week 11 of 11

Friday, 4th July 2025

Message from the Principal

What a busy but great Term 2 we have had. It seems like we began the term in heat and finished it in the freezing cold. 11-week terms are long ones but I’m proud to say our children did well and showed respect, resilience and responsibility for the term. It’s always a pleasure to see their academic and social emotional growth.

I would also publicly like to thank our staff for their hard work and passion for the job, often going well above in their care for our students. It does not go unnoticed and I am thankful.

Term 2 finished with a bang with our Year 5 Dance Battle. Thanks to Jody Banks for running such a great occasion and a big shout to our Year 5’s for showing us their amazing dancing skills and choreography. And then there were our amazing teacher dancers, Mr (Nimble)Nathan, Mr (Suave) Suaesi and Mr (Phenomenal) Pham who entertained the crowd with their well-practised Saturday night moves. I hope the professional dance industry does not steal them.

Just a reminder of two school closure days:

  • Monday 21st July (First day of Term 3 -Tuesday July 22)

  • Monday 18th August

On both days, Resurrection staff will be undergoing professional learning.

Wishing everyone good health throughout the school holidays.

As we head into the colder months, we kindly remind families to keep children at home if they are feeling unwell. Whether it's a cough, sore throat, fever, or general signs of illness, staying home helps protect classmates, teachers, and other families.

Best wishes,

Deputy Principal: Learning & Organisation

As we end Term 2, I’d like to thank you for your ongoing support with your child’s educational journey. Our community here at Resurrection is unmatched and I feel lucky to be leading in such a wonderful, supportive, diverse and grateful school community where everyone is truly valued - staff, parents, wider family networks and of course, our wonderful students. I hope you all enjoy your two-week holiday break with your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday 22nd July for the first day of Term 3!

Term 3 Week 1 - What’s coming up?

Wellbeing, Child Safety & Community Leader

Learning Diversity Leader

Our staff have been working diligently to develop personalised learning plans tailored to support your child’s individual progress and success.

Each student has received two copies of their plan. We kindly ask that you review the document, sign one copy, and return it to the school at your earliest convenience. The second copy is yours to keep for your records.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s learning journey.

Well done to all our Grade 5 students on an outstanding display of Performing Arts skills during the annual Dance Battle last Friday. The confidence, teamwork and choreography shown by all of our students was simply amazing to see. It was wonderful to see so many families come and support the children and the audience was entertained by the dancing and performing on stage! Thank you to all of the members of staff who helped put the event together, especially Matt Dalton for being our amazing MC, Jackie Wolfe for holding the 'applause metre' app so we could work out the audience score for each class, and Malae Suaesi, Thomas Pham and Nathan Koprek for entertaining the crowd in the 'teacher's battle' with their awesome dance moves!!! Thank you also to our Grade 5 teachers and LSOs for their support on the day and in the lead up to the event.

Lastly, a huge congratulations to the students in 5C who our winners on the day were winning by only 1 point! A fabulous effort by 5A, 5B and 5C who have worked hard all term in preparation for the event.

Photos that were taken on the day by Mrs Betham will be shared with Grade 5 families via Seesaw.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

This Sunday’s reading is from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 10:1-9

Your peace will rest upon him.

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.”

Gospel Reflection

The first thing that is striking about this gospel passage is the fact that there are 72 disciples whom Jesus sends out on mission. We can have an image of Jesus strolling around Galilee with just a small group of followers but this passage makes it clear that a significant number of people were engaged in his ministry. And the gospel writer has not just made an error in naming 72 rather than the Twelve because just one chapter earlier the Twelve were sent out. This sending out to mission is a significant element of the gospel of Luke. The first sending of the Twelve represents the mission to the Jews – the twelve tribes of Israel are frequently used symbolically to represent all of the Jewish people. The sending of the 72 then represents the mission beyond the Jewish people to all nations and all people.

Another theme that is significant in the gospel of Luke is the message of hospitality. Jesus teaches on it frequently and tries to convey a message that the hospitality of God is available to all. In the sending of both the Twelve and the 72, Jesus tells them to take nothing with them for the journey. He is telling them to rely on the hospitality of strangers. If they are welcomed and shown hospitality then they are to bless the household and carry out their ministry. The ability to show hospitality to the messengers of God is a sign that the household will welcome the message of God. However, wherever they do not receive hospitality they are to leave the town, shaking the dust from their feet, as their ministry will not be welcomed by people who are not ready to hear it. It is an excellent message about not wasting your efforts in unproductive ways – not hitting your head against a brick wall!

Gospel Focus - Blessing and Curse

The 72 who are sent out are given very clear instructions about how to respond when their message is welcomed and when it is rejected, but in both cases they are to tell the town, ‘The kingdom of God is very near.’ In the case of a welcoming town, these words serve as a blessing, but for an unwelcoming town the same words are a threat or curse. For those who welcome the kingdom it will be a blessing but for others it will be a curse: changing boundaries and redistributing power; bringing down the mighty and lifting up the lowly.

Living the Gospel - Discipleship

Today’s gospel passage immediately follows the passage used last week that spelt out the difficulties of discipleship. Having explained how hard it is to be a disciple, Jesus sends his followers out to ‘have a go’ at being a disciple. When they come back successful he tells them not to be boastful or proud at their achievements but rather to be happy that their ‘names are written in heaven’. In other words, anything they accomplished was because they were ‘known’ by God and that God was working through them. Disciples make themselves ‘known’ to God and God works through them to accomplish great things!
