Term 1 Week 10 of 10

Thursday, 2nd April 2026

Message from the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

I write this newsletter to you from Year 5 camp. The students are having a wonderful time in the beautiful surroundings of Cave Hill Creek, in Raglan, about an hour away from Ballarat and two hours from school. The students have had a day at Sovereign Hill to support their learning about history and are now enjoying archery, bush cooking, bush walking, hut building, low ropes, bouldering and the famous possum glider. These are all wonderful opportunities for our students to explore and grow.

Our students have done many things this term such as

  • Year 3-6 Athletics Sports

  • Year 6 Interschool sports

  • Visit and singing for Fr Nestus

  • Year 5 Camp

  • Year 6 Camp

  • St Patricks Day Mass for some Grade 6 Leaders

As this term ends, I wish to thank the staff of Resurrection for their hard work and dedication and most importantly their care for the students. I’m proud of the way we work together to get the best for our students. Thanks also to our students for being respectful, responsible and resilient. Even when they make mistakes with their behaviour, which we all do, our students are owning their mistakes and becoming better members of our community. Thanks to our families for placing trust in our school and working with us. Also, thanks to Fr Gerard and our parish community for their support.

Happy and Holy Easter to all.

Easter is the most important feast of the liturgical year. At its core, it celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion, which we believe is the definitive victory over sin, death, and evil.

The Resurrection of Christ is the basis of our Catholic Faith. It is the greatest of the miracles, for it proves that Jesus is God. That is why St. Paul wrote: “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain; and your Faith is in vain” (I Cor 15:14). ). Easter is the guarantee of our own resurrection. Jesus assured Martha at the tomb of Lazarus: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me will live even though he dies…” (Jn 11:25-26).) Easter is a feast which gives us hope and encouragement in this current world of concern.  It reminds us that life is worth living and is wonderful. It also gives us strength to fight for what we believe in. Easter gives meaning to our prayers: It supports our belief in the Real Presence of the Risen Jesus in and around us, in His Church, in the Blessed Sacrament, and in Heaven, hearing our prayers, and so gives meaning to our personal as well as our communal prayers.

I pray that everyone in our community has a Holy Easter and enjoys this wonderful season with their families. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Term 2. Happy Holidays!

Term 2 commences back on Tuesday 21st April, see you all then!

Best wishes

Deputy Principal

Intervention at Resurrection

We have been busy transforming underutilised spaces into learning environments for intervention.

Targeted intervention is where we use data to identify students who require extra support across the curriculum (typically literacy and numeracy). We provide targeted teaching to support our children by meeting their individual needs.

Several programs currently running at Resurrection are:

Meeting Initial Needs In Literacy (MiniLit) is an evidence-based, explicit, and systematic early literacy intervention program designed for children typically in Year 1 or 2. It focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading skills.

Macquarie Literacy Program (MacqLit) is an explicit, systematic, and evidence-based reading intervention program designed for small groups, typically in Year 3 and above. It focuses on phonics, word identification, and comprehension.

Whole School Number Framework (WSNF) is used from Foundation to Year 6. It provides a consistent, research-based approach to teaching numeracy. It typically focuses on building "number sense"—covering counting, place value, and part-part-whole relationships—using both strategic thinking and essential knowledge to move students from basic counting to advanced multiplicative strategies.

We are proud to be following Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction. For those who are unfamiliar:

‘The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction is a system-wide pedagogical framework launched in February 2024, focusing on evidence-based, explicit teaching to ensure high-quality learning across nearly 300 schools. It aims to move away from outdated methods to a more consistent approach that boosts literacy and numeracy, ensuring equity and excellence for all students’

In this way, we believe that no child should slip between the cracks and all children should have their individual needs met.

Resurrection Day - Wednesday 22nd April

Our Resurrection Feast will be celebrated on Wednesday 22nd April. It will be a day to gather

as a community and reflect on the miracle of Jesus’ Resurrection. As part of our Resurrection Day celebrations, families are invited to join the whole school for Mass at 9:30am, led by Fr. Gerard.

A Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnut will also be provided as part of our celebrations.

Please fill in the Nforma form indicating your whether you would like to opt for your child to receive a celebration doughnut! Responses are due no later than Monday 20th April.

After School Supervision

School finishes at 3:15 pm and students should be collected promptly.

● If a student has not been collected by 3:30 pm, they will be taken to the school office for supervision.

● Parents/guardians will be contacted to arrange immediate collection.

● In cases of repeated late pick-ups, a meeting may be requested to discuss ongoing arrangements and support.

● All families are encouraged to enrol their child/children to OSHClub (After school care program) in case of an emergency

A reminder that after school supervision is only provided outside the front of the hall by a staff member between 3:15-3:30pm. No other area is supervised by a staff member. Therefore, any child outside of this area must be actively supervised by their parent/guardian.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive

Our school community has been collecting donations of non-perishable items to pass on to our local St. Vincent de Paul parish group. The St. Vincent de Paul group will distribute these items to those in need. Thank you to all those families who kindly donated some items. This is another example of our parish and school working together to take action in our local community.

3-6 Athletics Day

What a fantastic day we had on Monday, 30th March 2026, for our Grade 3–6 Athletics Day!

The event was held at the Keilor Athletics Track where students, staff, and parents were actively involved in all events, helping to create a truly memorable day. This year’s Athletics Day featured exciting new additions, including house banners designed with input from students in Grades 3–6, and our spirited team chants.

Great effort to Mackillop House (Yellow Team) for designing the best banner and receiving the most teacher votes, earning an extra 200 house points. Well done also to Sebastian House (Green Team), who received Mr Glasby’s vote for their banners and to Pedro House (Red) for the best chants who both received additional 100 house points.

Students across the Grade 3–6 cohort showcased their skills and talents in a wide range of events, including:

  • Shot Put, Discus, 100m and 200m sprints, 400m and 800m long-distance races, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump

Congratulations to Teressa House (Blue Team) for earning the highest number of house points on the day, scoring 676 points and claiming the 2026 House Champions Trophy. Our runners-up were Sebastian House (Green Team), who finished with 554 points.

I would like to commend all students and teachers for their contributions in making this event such a success. It was a fun and rewarding day, and we are incredibly proud of our students’ effort, ability, and commitment to sport. Thank you also to our parent helpers, who generously gave their time to support staff by assisting with event coordination and duties throughout the day.

Kind regards

SUNDAY GOSPEL

Easter Sunday - Year A

On the first day of the week,

Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,

while it was still dark,

and saw the stone removed from the tomb.

So she ran and went to Simon Peter

and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,

“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,

and we don’t know where they put him.”

So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.

They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter

and arrived at the tomb first;

he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.

When Simon Peter arrived after him,

he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,

and the cloth that had covered his head,

not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.

Then the other disciple also went in,

the one who had arrived at the tomb first,

and he saw and believed.

For they did not yet understand the Scripture

that he had to rise from the dead.
