Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Carers,
This week, our school community pauses to celebrate Father’s Day. We give thanks for the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and father figures who guide, protect, and love our children. We also take time to celebrate with our own fathers or to stop to think about those that are no longer with us. We thank those that are amazing role models in our lives (even often long after they have gone) and remember the many lessons they taught us. I think of my father, John Glasby, who is no longer with us and thank him for his patience, care, love and dedication to our family. This serves as an inspiration for me.
This week we had our Father’s Day stall on Monday and our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday. Many thanks to the mums at our school who ran the Father’s Day stall. Our Father’s Day Breakfast was a great opportunity to spend some time with the fathers at our school and for them to come into our classrooms. Thanks to all the staff who made this morning possible.
In the Catholic Church, we often look to Saint Joseph as the ultimate model of fatherhood. He was a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and tender care, chosen by God to protect and raise Jesus. We pray that our school fathers find inspiration in Saint Joseph’s patience and devotion.
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the gift of our fathers and those who act as
fathers in our lives.
Bless them with the strength to guide us, the patience to teach
us, and the love to support us always.
May they feel appreciated today and every day, and may they
be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to be living examples of Your
love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Our Footy Colour’s Day has changed from Monday the 14th of September to
Friday 18th September. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students
in their favourite footy colours

Year 6 Confirmation Candidates
Our Year 6 Confirmation candidates have shown wonderful responsibility and commitment in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We extend our sincere thanks to all students and families for returning the sponsor information forms to the office so promptly. Your cooperation ensures that preparations continue smoothly as we move closer to this important celebration in our parish community.
Last Thursday, the students had the privilege of meeting Bishop Martin, who spent time speaking with them about the Holy Spirit and the seven gifts that guide and strengthen us in our daily lives. His message invited the children to reflect more deeply on how the Spirit works within them offering wisdom, courage, understanding, and a sense of God’s presence in all they do.
As a school and parish community, we will continue to keep our Confirmation candidates in our prayers. May they feel supported, encouraged, and inspired as they prepare to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
A reminder that the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS) will be happening Monday 31st August to Friday 18th September. Throughout each year, we pause to listen to our students, families and staff to gauge how our learning community is traveling. This feedback is invaluable to our progress as effective school communities and is backed by evidence-based research and best practices.

Father’s Day Breakfast
What a wonderful turn out
It was great to see all the dads, grandpas and father figures at our annual Father’s Day breakfast at Resurrection. We hope you all enjoyed the egg, and bacon rolls and hot drink provided.
Thank you for participating in the activities that were organised, and for those who were able to spend some time in their child’s class this morning, found it a worthwhile experience.

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 16:21-27
We Reflect
This week’s gospel provides us with a lesson that could be well heeded in our contemporary world. Matthew relates a discourse on dealing with a grievance or sin between two ‘brothers’ – community members; fellow disciples. Matthew advises his audience that the first step is to try to resolve the matter privately between the offender and the one offended. This is a practice that seems to have almost disappeared today. When one person feels offended or hurt by another, it seems the last thing they do is to go and speak to the person, confront them with the hurt and try to resolve it. Soap operas and TV sitcoms promote avoidance of issues. The sub-text of so many TV shows is about lying to cover up a mistake; seeking revenge for some perceived (usually incorrect) insult; or working through others to try to deal with some hurt. If characters on these TV shows were to confront one another with a perceived hurt and seek to resolve the difference between them, then there would be no ‘drama’ to play out in the show. Admittedly, it doesn’t make for great television, but it does make for much better relationships!
Matthew advises his community that only after a failed attempt to address an issue face to face should other members of the community become involved to further confront the offender through witnessing to their fault. The third step is to bring the person before the church community to be confronted with their actions and only after these three attempts to challenge the person fail should they be shunned. There is a very strong message of reconciliation that comes through this process. The person is given every chance to face their error and to seek amends with the one they have hurt. The whole process works towards bringing the community back together in harmony, not to seek revenge and punishment.

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others with you: the evidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain any charge. But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to the community, treat him like a pagan or a tax collector.
‘I tell you solemnly, whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.
‘I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them.’

Confirmation Celebration with Bishop Ashe
Our Confirmation candidates will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Martin Ashe on Saturday, 12 September.
Two Confirmation Masses will be celebrated at 11am and 1.30pm.
We invite our parish community to keep these young people in prayer as they prepare to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and continue their journey of faith.
Sausage Sizzle – 12 & 13 September
A sausage sizzle will be held after all weekend Masses on 12th and 13th September. We warmly invite parishioners to stay after Mass, enjoy a sausage, and spend some time together as a community.
All funds raised will go towards the Feast of Our Lady.
Office Closure
The office will be closed on Thursday 17th September as staff will be attending a Parish Administration Forum.
Volunteers Needed for 6pm mass
We are seeking coffee makers and cleaners to assist
after the 6pm Mass.
If you can help with either ministry, even once a
month, your support would be greatly appreciated.
These small acts of service make a big difference in
keeping our parish welcoming.
