Term 2 Week 6 of 10 (Copy)

Friday, 4th July 2026

Reminder: Monday 8th June is a

Public Holiday. As such, there will be no school on this day

Message from the Acting Principal

Dear parents and carers,

On Tuesday, the curriculum leaders and I attended a Flourishing Learners Improvement Network. This was with other Catholic Primary Schools in the Western Region of Melbourne. It was a reminder that Resurrection is not alone on this journey of continuous improvement to act upon MACS’ Vision for Instruction to deliver the best educational outcome for every student.

The focus of the professional development was to reflect on our school’s Annual Action Plan and how we are tracking. To paraphrase our goals:

  • To improve student achievement in reading particularly the segmenting and blending skills of our students in P-2 through a synthetic phonics approach.

  • To improve the comprehension skills of our Year 3-6 students.

  • To improve student achievement in Whole School Number Framework results.

  • To have consistent teaching practices throughout the school with low variance

  • That staff capacity is built to design and implement RE curriculum that is authentic, meaningful and relevant to all learners that leads to action within our school context.

While we will have to wait until the end of the year to see our final data, it was pleasing to have the opportunity to reflect on what we have already implemented and achieved through the various programs, PD and resources we have implemented at our school.

When analysing our progress against MACs Vision for Instruction, it was apparent that our school is at the final embedding stage.

At the embedding stage, the aim is to make all of the practices we have developed over the years regular and sustainable items in our everyday practice. The fact that our school is already at this stage is testament to not only Adrian and Shannon’s leadership, but to our teachers who are constantly reflecting on how they can best support our students.

Classroom Parent Helpers

We greatly value the partnership between parents and staff, and any extra help is always appreciated. Fortunately, many parents genuinely want to visit the classroom in the mornings and assist with the learning program. But we could always do with more!

As you can see in this photo, we have Christine assisting our preps practise their letters and sounds. Having another adult work with our students is such a valuable resource. Thank you Christine!

If you are interested in helping in the classroom and have completed the parent training course that was conducted at the start of the year, please speak to your classroom teacher.

2027 Prep Enrolments

Are Closing Soon

We are already receiving many enrolment applications from new families, which is a wonderful sign!

To assist us in our preparation and planning, we are

encouraging our current parents to please collect and

complete an enrolment form and to return it as soon as

possible.

Best wishes,

Wellbeing, Child Safety & Community Leader

Handing out birthday or any invitations at school to a selective group can cause social exclusion:

We love celebrating birthdays and friendships that develop within our school community. To help ensure all children feel included and valued, we kindly ask families or students not to distribute birthday invitations at school in a public manner.

When only some children receive invitations at school, it can unintentionally lead to feelings of exclusion and disappointment for those not invited. We encourage parents to arrange invitations privately such as contacting the families directly, using personal emails, phone, messenger or distributing invitations after school hours.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a caring and inclusive school community for all our students at Resurrection.

How to Manage your child’s disappointment if they are not invited:

  1. Validate their feelings. Let them know it’s ok to be sad, mad or disappointed. Listen and then say ’It’s completely understandable to feel hurt. You’ve got this. Disappointment is hard, but you're strong enough to get through it.’

  2. Put it into perspective. Help your child understand that not getting an invite is usually about logistics, not personal rejection. Sometimes parties can only have a few kids because of space or budget.

  3. Plan something special. Instead of dwelling on what they are missing out on, shift the focus toward a fun alternative weekend.

PE News

It has been a busy and exciting term for sport at Resurrection School. Our students have taken part in a range of events, including the Grade 6 Interschool Sports Winter Tournament, the District and Division Cross Country competitions, and the District Netball Tournament.

We are proud of the effort and sportsmanship shown by all students who represented our school this term.

Grade 6 Interschool Sports Winter Tournament

Our Grade 6 students have been taking part in weekly sports tournaments against other schools every Friday this term. The sports they have competed in include AFL 9s, Soccer, Netball, T-Ball, and Volley

stars.

Students have worked together in mixed teams and represented our school with great effort and sportsmanship. This term, our Volleyball and Soccer teams have achieved excellent results. The

Volleyball team is currently 3rd on the ladder out of 12 schools, while the Soccer team is undefeated and sitting in 1st place.

Our Soccer team has secured a place in the grand final, which will be held at our school in Week 8. The Volleyball team also has a chance to finish in the top two and qualify for its grand final.

Congratulations to all our Grade 6 students for their hard work and commitment throughout the term. We are very proud of their efforts.

Districts and Divisions Cross Country

This term, a group of our Grade 4–6 students represented our school at the District Cross Country event held on Tuesday 12 May. We had 32 students compete on the day.

Our Grade 4 students completed a 2km course, while our Grade 5 and 6 students competed in separate 3km races. All students gave their best effort, and we were proud to have 6 students qualify for the next stage of competition.

The Division Cross Country event was held on Wednesday 27 May, where our qualifying students competed against students from schools across the Keilor Division. We are excited to share that one of our students finished 6th overall in their event, competing against approximately 50 students, and has now qualified for the Western Region Championships.

Congratulations to all of our Cross-Country students for representing our school with determination and sportsmanship. We are very proud of their efforts and achievements.

Districts Netball Tournament

On Monday 11 May, ten of our Grade 6 students represented our school at the District Netball Tournament. The tournament was held at the Keilor Recreation Centre, where students competed against 12 other schools from the Deer Park District.

Our team played four games in the group stage and remained undefeated, winning all matches to qualify for the finals.

In the finals, we faced Cairnlea Park Primary School. It was a close game, with our team leading 4–3 at half-time. Despite a strong effort, we were defeated 5–7.

We are very proud of our Grade 6 Netball team for their teamwork, sportsmanship, and effort throughout the day. Congratulations on finishing 3rd overall and making the finals once again.

SUNDAY GOSPEL

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ John 6:51-58

We Reflect

This feast harkens back to the celebration of Holy Thursday. By way of the metaphors of food and drink, its readings provide us with a look at the mystery of divine presence. They first provide a picture of a God who feeds us. In the past God set a table in freedom, and then provided food that enabled our ancestors to survive. God fed those who were needy, not those who were worthy. Jesus offered sustenance to the crowds that gathered around him. It was not manna from heaven that he offered but his own flesh and blood as food and drink. This food and drink are the pledge of eternal life.

Those who eat this bread and drink this cup are caught up in a profound unity with God, a unity not envisioned in the wilderness experience. There is a new overlay of significance. Jesus’ claim to give his flesh and blood was a bold one, Paul’s seems even bolder. He states that partaking of the bread and the cup not only joins us with Christ, but actually makes us participants in the body and blood of Christ. Humanity and divinity are joined as one. The Eucharist is a sign of unity in another way. Joined to the body and blood of Christ, we are joined to each other. We are one body and that body is Christ. The Eucharist is truly a celebration of thanksgiving: thanksgiving for our transformation and thanksgiving for our unity.

REFLECTION by Dianne Bergant CSA

We Read

Jesus said to the Jews:

‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.

Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;

and the bread that I shall give

is my flesh, for the life of the world.’

Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:

‘I tell you most solemnly,

if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man

and drink his blood,

you will not have life in you.

Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life,

and I shall raise him up on the last day.

For my flesh is real food

and my blood is real drink.

He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him.

As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me.

This is the bread come down from heaven;

not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
