Term 4 Week 7 of 11

Friday, 21st November 2025

Message from the Principal

Today we held our third Prep transition session, and I am delighted to share that it ran smoothly. The children have settled in beautifully, showing confidence and enthusiasm as they explore their new learning environment. We are truly excited to welcome them officially as part of our school community next year.

Our final Prep orientation will take place on Friday, 28th November, and we look forward to seeing all our future Preps once more before the big start.

Our current students from Years 1 to 6 participated in their transition session last Monday. This provided them with an opportunity to meet new teachers, explore classrooms, and prepare for the year ahead. Another transition session will be held on Monday, 24th November, ensuring that all students feel confident and ready for their next stage of learning.

At times, situations may arise where a concern involves another student. I would like to remind families that if you ever have an issue or worry regarding another child, the best way forward is to speak directly with your child’s teacher or myself.

It is very important that parents and carers do not approach the student directly. This ensures that all matters are handled respectfully, appropriately, and in line with our school’s values. Our staff are here to listen, support, and work with you to find the best resolution.

By following this process, we can maintain a safe and positive environment for all children and continue to build a strong partnership between home and school.

Our office has recently noticed many lost property items piling up. Many of these belongings, jackets, hats and jumpers are unlabelled, which makes it very difficult for us to return them to their rightful owners.

To help us return items with your child quickly, we kindly ask all families to label every piece of clothing and personal item brought to school. A simple name tag or permanent marker can make all the difference in ensuring lost property finds its way home.

If your child is missing any belongings, please remember to check in with the office. We encourage parents and students to look through the lost property collection regularly, as unclaimed items will eventually be donated.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community organised and ensuring that your child’s belongings don’t go astray.

Best Wishes

Deputy Principal

Years 1 - 6 Transition (Session 2 of 2)

It was fantastic moving around the school to see how excited our students and teachers were to meet their 2026 classes! On Monday we will have our second of two transition sessions for the 2026 school year for our Years 1-6 students. The session will run on:

Monday 24th November: 9:30am - 10:30am

A reminder: Children should arrive at school at the regular 8:30am start time for a full day of school on these days. In these sessions, your child will meet their 2026 teacher, begin to familiarise themselves with their new learning space and their peers.

Final 2026 Student Leadership Announcement

Our final 2026 Student Leaders have been nominated, and we would like to acknowledge and congratulate these students for their achievement!

A big congratulations to all students who participated in the speeches and voting process and showed interest and passion for leadership opportunities in our wonderful school. Remember, you don’t have to wear a badge to be a leader and there will be many opportunities for you to showcase your skills and passions as students in the senior school.

All students who were successful in receiving a formal leadership role will receive a blessing from Fr. Gerard at our end of year awards ceremony on Tuesday 16th at 2:15pm in the church. All students will receive their badge early in Term 1 of 2026.

Learning Diversity

Week 8 PSG Meetings A friendly reminder that our Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings will be held during Week 8. If you have already booked a time, please double-check your appointment to ensure everything is correct.

Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) All Personalised Learning Plans will be sent home in Week 9. These plans outline each student’s progress, strengths, and goals, and we look forward to discussing them with you. Thank You for Your Partnership, we truly value your ongoing support and collaboration as we work together to nurture each child’s learning journey.

Farewell to Orphilia This week we also say goodbye to Orphilia, who has made a wonderful contribution to our middle school during her placement training. We wish her every success as she steps into her new role as a fully qualified Learning Support Officer.

Religious Education

As we continue our Jubilee Year, please view some of the amazing messages of ‘hope’ shared by our students through the many activities we have shared together so far this Term.

Garden of Hope: During our Pilgrims of Hope morning, students from Sebastian House reflected on what they hope for. We were able to create this ‘Garden of Hope’ with all their hopes and desires!

Art Competition: We had many wonderful entries into our ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ Art Competition from our talented students! Alongside Fr. Gerard, it has been a difficult task to choose our winners. We plan to announce the students who won our competition early next week (Week 8). Please view the hope filled pieces below (note: can all unused canvases please be returned back to school!):

Important message to ALL Year 3 and Year 5 families

A friendly reminder to ALL Year 3 and Year 5 families to please fill out the Operoo form sent on the 5th of Nov regarding 2026’s Sacraments. If you do not intend for your child to take part in next year’s Sacraments, we do still require the forms to be completed with your indication of ‘no’, as we hope to ensure all families understand the information provided. Thank you for your assistance with this.

In Faith,

Christmas Choir

Last Friday the 14th of November, our school "Christmas Choir" performed a variety of Christmas carols and songs at Kmart in Caroline Springs. Our school was invited to organise a group of students to sing as part of the store's official "Wishing Tree" launch and 34 students from Grades 2 & 3 were chosen to represent our school. Managers at the store and a representative from the Salvation Army spoke about the meaning behind the Wishing Tree appeal held at Kmart stores each Christmas.

The children were magnificent in both their singing and their behaviour on the day. There were many comments by the store management team, audience members and people in the shopping centre on the beautiful manners our students displayed, not to mention their amazing performance skills!!! The children were treated to a Kmart gift bag each to thank them for their efforts and for entertaining the crowd so well.

A big thank you to Jolene Majer and Michelle Widdison for helping out in so many ways on the day, and to Mary Flahavin for coming along to support the children. A huge thank you to all of the wonderful parents, grandparents and family members who came along to watch the children perform and for being such an amazing audience for our students.

Well done to all of our incredible students who performed in the Christmas Choir....what a glorious way to introduce the Christmas season!!

Stem Excursion

Last Friday, 14th November, 10 lucky students from Grade 1 and Grade 4 visited Melbourne Zoo to attend the Fighting for Extinction Showcase, where students from schools across Victoria presented their inspiring conservation projects. Our school was invited after our students led a fantastic campaign to help zoo animals—designing enrichment toys to prevent boredom and creating solutions to protect the seals from becoming tangled in plastic. They also organised a successful Nude Food Week to reduce waste!

Throughout the day, the children showed resilience, curiosity and enthusiasm. They learnt so much from watching other students present, and it has motivated them for their own showcase opportunities next year.

A very big thank you to Matthew Dalton and parent helper Amanda for supporting our students on the excursion.

Well done to all of our incredible students who created these campaigns during Term 3. What a wonderful and meaningful way to help protect animals!

will be sent out soon via Operoo to Year 3 and Year 5 students outlining next year’s Sacramental schedule. It is important to note that the following Sacraments will be offered next year to our students in these respective year levels:

Year 4 - Sacrament of First Reconciliation & Sacrament of First Eucharist

Year 6 - Sacrament of Confirmation

SUNDAY GOSPEL

Feast of Christ the King (Final Sunday of the Liturgical Year) - Year C

We reflect

And just like that, we find ourselves once again back at Calvary. We hear a crucified criminal make one last request: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

We realize with a shock that the criminal may not just speaking for himself. He could be speaking for each of us, as we pray for our place in paradise, asking for mercy and looking with hope toward the king who wears a crown of thorns.

It’s a sobering way to close a liturgical year, yet it’s also rich with anticipation and purpose. This week, we remember Christ’s death; next week, we begin Advent and the preparation for his birth. A new cycle begins. The great story of our salvation goes on.

Christ’s kingdom is a place where the question “Who is my neighbor?” is answered with one word: “Everyone.”

It is a place where tax collectors are holy, the powerful are locked out of paradise, and where the poor are saved. It is where the humble are exalted, where servants are wise, where the rich are foolish, and where sometimes the most important thing a person can do is just sit at the feet of the Lord and listen.

Looking for Christ’s kingdom? There it is.

“Jesus, remember me…” We hear the words and can’t help but whisper them ourselves and hope we can somehow make ourselves worthy of that transcendent, beautiful, grace-filled kingdom.

We read                                          Luke 23:35-43

The rulers sneered at Jesus and said,

"He saved others, let him save himself

if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God."

Even the soldiers jeered at him.

As they approached to offer him wine they called out, "If you are King of the Jews, save yourself."

Above him there was an inscription that read,

"This is the King of the Jews."

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us."

The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,

"Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation?

And indeed, we have been condemned justly,

for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal."

Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you,

today you will be with me in Paradise."

The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Teddy’s Surgery Update

Teddy is a student that attends Resurrection Vocational Secondary School in Buyaga Uganda, when we met her, her story broke our heart and we wish to share an important update about Teddy, whose story has deeply touched our hearts.

Some time ago, Teddy’s next-door neighbour placed poison on banana leaves with the intent to harm her grandmother. Tragically, Teddy consumed one of those poisoned leaves. This impacted her growth and health in ways that went unnoticed for years.

Through investigation and compassion, Teddy was finally assessed, and a surgery plan was prepared. With the generosity of a kind donor, Teddy underwent her first surgery on 9th November.

Update from Dr Vincent:

The surgery was successful. Teddy is now recovering and, for the first time in many years, she is able to sleep on her back. Her right foot has been casted, and realignment weights have been applied to her right leg.

This is only the beginning of her journey. Teddy will undergo a series of additional surgeries to ensure her body is realigned and able to support her normally.

Up to now, we still marvel at this miracle. While the community was blind to Teddy’s suffering, God placed others on a long journey to change the story of this young girl. Teddy’s life is being rewritten — one step, one surgery, one miracle at a time.
